   yeah, to me a huge issue is… costa confronted all the gay-coding and made it textual and important. No one else quite did that. It’s not “shippy,” it’s fucking canon, and it wrestles with all the nasty, homophobic demonization that you really cannot brush off in old Venom. So this in turn re-seizing Venom as not romantic whatsoever and NOT a mutual recovery but an INDIVIDUAL recovery is like… okay, but 1 thats not what i’m here for and 2 just more of the same. 

I mean, I don’t necessarily think he is no-romo-ing Eddie and the symbiote, there is still a very distinct romantic undertone here (and a literal love confession), but it’s... uh, annoying to build off a run that did, as you said, MUTUAL RECOVERY, to go yet again like “actually these two people cannot happily be together”.

(Also I mean, Cates did at least say the abuse is mutual and nobody’s fault, which is... a bit of hope for SYMBIOTE RIGHTS, at least.)

... then again, I know there is a piece of media out there that literally has a naked male-to-male love confession at its finale and the writers still were surprised it got read as romantic, so idek about anything anymore.
