"Small, chunky, emerald-green finch of humid evergreen forest in highlands and foothills. Usually in pairs or small groups feeding at fruiting trees and bushes, often in the canopy where easily overlooked. Note the bright yellow belly and stubby bill. Blue crown patch often difficult to see, given that birds are usually overhead."

February 9, 2022 - Blue-crowned Chlorophonia (Chlorophonia occipitalis)

These Chlorophonias are found in southern Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador. Foraging in pairs or small flocks, they feed almost entirely on fruit, especially small berries like mistletoe, and may also eat some insects. They build domed nests with side entrances in road banks and cliffs from moss and rootlets. Both parents care for the chicks.
