Looks like the delay in cocoa/cacao purchasing is forcing the opportunistic hedge funds to close their positions early.

Around the November-December 2023 period, the Cocoa prices were around $4000 / MT. Prices are still around double currently and looks to stabilize around Q3-Q4 2025 and most likely in early 2026.

Some good news on cocoa/cacao prices! Looks like the increase in export for Nigeria in March has given relief to the global cocoa futures. Lets hope this will be reflected in our regional chocolate distribution prices in the next few months!

Since we posted about the expected increase in cocoa/cacao/chocolate price in Q2 of 2024 back in February 2024, 2 months later, the prices have really gone up!!

"well... just FYI, cocoa prices have doubled and almost tripled since the beginning of the year.... ugh. and looks like the prices wont be going down until Q3/Q4 of 2025, but not to 2023 prices. Looks like around $7000/mt, which is x2 of 2023 averages. see link below from MarketWatch for futures contracts. / Was ordering more cocoa butter last night and the prices from my 2 main suppliers have doubled since March 2024, or more than tripled since November 2023."

We posted the above note to our customers on Facebook back on 2/22/2024, to alert them to potential increase in cocoa/cacao/chocolate prices coming in 2024.

"well.... as you may have heard in the news, cocoa / chocolate prices are going up! due to the cyclical El Nino weather effects, the harvest in Africa in late 2023 was not a particularly good one, and as reflected in the pricing below, some of our core ingredient prices have jump significantly. one of the organic chocolates we use, the price jumped up 34% between 12/5 and 12/24. and now the hedge funds are getting into the feeding frenzy... we expect wholesale food distributor prices to raise considerably by Q2 of 2024. will keep everyone posted."
