Daryl hesitated, staring at Beth, painfully aware of how close she was to him in this moment. He could, he thought, he could kiss her, if she wanted him to. Heat was flushing his cheeks and he tried to clear his throat to speak, to say something, instinctively grunt her off.
But in this moment, in the kitchen of the funeral home with the candles around them, he felt like someone else. Someone he wanted to be, someone else with Beth. He never felt like this before, not really, not so- seen, by anyone before. Not in the way Beth looked at him. He felt raw, exposed, in the best of ways. She was reading his mind. He wasn’t any good at initiating things, and, well, she always spoke her mind.
He knew that any words he had would fail him. He didn’t know what moves or motions he made to make his way to her, but Daryl’s lips were pressed against Beth’s just for a moment, before he pulled back bashfully, turning away a bit. He side-eyed her, unsure of how she was feeling.
Beth felt herself grin as he leaned and and pressed the softest, quickest kiss against her lips. She knew that this wasn't something that Daryl wasn't like that. Someone to just kiss another person without truly wanting it, feeling it. She was nervous, too and felt almost bashful as she glanced back over at him before her grin somehow spread even wider.
Honestly, the question had blurted from her mouth. Her mind-to-mouth filter catching up way too slow. Not that she regretted it but she was nervous. Had she pushed, with asking him that? It was the last thing she wanted to do, but the entire time they'd been at the funeral home, she couldn't help the questions that swirled through her mind.
Something had shifted, she just hadn't been sure if it was for just her or for him as well. Not until his words and his answer to her question. He'd kissed her and she knew that it'd changed for him, as well. Beth opened her mouth to ask him what this was, but instead, she shut her mouth and reached across, simply taking his hand in her own and letting her fingers intertwine with his, a small smile on her lips.
