Kyrgyzstan: The Area around Issyk Kul

Issyk Kul is a large lake in Kyrgyzstan. Our itinerary had us drive around it and stay in various towns along the way.

Dilapidated jetty (or boardwalk without boards) and beach house on the beautiful Issyk Kul in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

This was the moment I started looking in more detail, here a couple of vaguely central asian leaders I assume but who is that in between them? Its Nicolaus Copernicus of course, wait, what, the polish mathematician, why is he here? Opposite him was a statue of Aristotle naturally.

On the previous post there was a large central structure with a big statue in the middle, that was of Buddha. But what should be facing Buddha, a frog, a frog is the answer to that question. And the pathway between that structure and the lake should have famous greek mythological women along. Things continued to be odd with Kazakh president Nursultan Nazarbayev standing next to Kemal Ataturk and a selection of fake cacti amongst the trees.

Here we see a trully awful depiction of Victor Hugo, there was also the character Gavroche and opposite the great French author sat Alfred Nobel, at this point I was losing it, there was no predicting what might happen next.

This building has an empty but very clean swimming pool in it surround by carpet and paintings of mountains. There was a map of Kyrgyzstan on the wall and few bookcase for good measure.

So when the next room contained these, a set of black and white pictures depicting the construction of the hoover dam, I wasn’t concerned at all. What could be more logical.
