Hi, I came across your blog and I was specifically looking for an equestrian who owned a cremello horse. :) Then I saw you were from Alberta as well! So am I! I am looking into purchasing a cremello gelding and I was wondering your thoughts on them and if they have any special circumstances (sun-burning etc). Thanks :)
Hey, I didn’t know you were from Alberta! It’s always cool to have tumblr people close to home! Hopefully your weather is as beautiful it is here! (But hopefully your horses pasture/paddocks are not also flooded) Honestly I love cremellos, they always attract attention, so if you are showing you’ll get noticed! They are prone to sunburn, I always try to put a fly mask on Scamp, and I’m currently on the look out for a full face mask. (I went away for a couple weeks the first summer I got him and come home to peeling and very raw skin, needless to say I learned my lesson.) You can also put sunscreen on them if you’re working them or whatever. Because they have light hooves they are more prone to developing white line disease(Scamp did) but your farrier should be able to catch it right away! (I personally used diluted bleach and disinfectant hoof oils and it was gone by the next trimming) I would post links for more information on it, but I’m on mobile. There are tons of articles online though! The blue eyes are more sensitive, I’ve seen people put like that eye black stuff football players use on them, so that the light hits there rather then directly in the eye. I’ve yet to have an issue with this. So I wouldn’t be too worried about it. Really there’s not much different. All the research I’ve done has assured my they are not prone to cancer! Thank goodness! Mostly they just need more baths! :)
