Imagine Eugene joining the party and encountering Hellride. He realizes it was Rachel, the pained shrieks were undoubtedly hers. He couldn’t forget the sound when she burned.

Eugene would feel so guilty knowing she tried to check up on him when the apocalypse hit, that he’s indirectly the cause of her suffering a second time.

She doesn’t remember him but is familiar with his face, something about his facial scars. By cruel fate, she begun to recognize him just before she was slain.

If Sam and the party hadn’t defeated Hellride, Eugene might’ve stayed and let her take him to hell where he should be burning, not her. If he could, he would’ve switched places with her, but the only comfort he can provide is by staying with her in the hell she can’t escape.

And even that, he failed.
