curious about your choice of name like is there any interesting story or fun fact on why you choose Adriana or Mason ? ^^

I really just tried to think of names I thought they would like based on their characters. I see Eren as the kind of guy who would want princessy names for his daughters - not names of actual princesses, mind you, but names he thinks are pretty. I think that, left to his own devices, he would have named Adri after a flower or picked a frillier name, but Lara was also involved in the naming process and I think she would be more interested in a name that sounds respectable and suitable for an adult professional. I imagine Adriana was one of the few names they both liked okay, even if it wasn't a favorite for either of them, so that's what they went with.

For Mikasa, I think she had a hard time growing up as a shy kid with an uncommon name, so she wanted to give Mason a name that wouldn't draw attention without being so common that he'd have to go by Mason A. to differentiate him from the other Mason(s) in class. I think she prefers more classic sounding names but Eduardo would also have been involved and he would probably want to name their kid after a cool video game or movie character or something. Mason's name seemed like a good blend of what their preferences would be, leaning slightly towards Eduardo's tastes because you know how Mikasa is.

But, full disclosure, when choosing the names I pretty much let my heart guide me and when I landed on a name that felt right, I went with it. I rely a lot on the vibes of things, I think, because I don't have an inner monologue, so, for me, at least, I know things about my characters or the narrative without having words to explain it up front. It's easier to follow what my gut says and then translate it into words later when it's necessary to explain my reasoning than to try to verbalize it in advance. If that makes sense. Obviously I can think in words, but that's a more involved and intentional layer of thought. Like, it requires effort.

I guess you didn't need this whole thing on my thought process, but I feel like I often get questions where the answer is just, "it felt right," or "the vibes were good," but then I feel like I should explain why that was, so I work out what felt right about it when I did it, but then I feel like that makes me seem like I put a lot more intentioned forethought into narrative decisions than I actually did. But also, leaving it at, "it just felt right" seems kind of smug somehow? I don't know. I guess I just felt the need to explain myself lol. Sorry for the essay.

Trying to choose a name to replace your legal/birth name is so much more complicated that I thought it would be.

I’ve manage to narrow it down to a few options but I have no idea what to do next. How am I supposed to know which one is right for me??

There's something bittersweet about getting to a point in writing an original story where you're ready to graduate away from the placeholder OTP names for characters, and swap in their actual names.

Like, yay I'm ready for new names, but sad that they're no longer Lena and Kara.

To be fair, choosing the names is super fun. You get to choose what feels and sounds right to you, or else have your friends and family vote on the finalists.
