I've got actual work to do tomorrow at my job, but I also hope to finish editing this one shot for Twiyor week. I think it's sufficiently domestic to fit the Loidyor prompt, although Loid's spy nonsense is never fully on pause.

I recently watched the Mandalorian & Grogu, the Sheep Detectives, Iron Lung, and Is God Is. Thoughts!

I miss giving a shit about Star Wars. I long for the old extended universe books and lore I grew up with. This is another way of saying I enjoyed it, although it made me lonesome for a simpler time in a galaxy far, far away. I was not ready for a buff Hutt with a heart of gold, nor for the itty bittiest rescue mission team ever. Lots of cuteness overload to make up for the rather unremarkable plot.

The Sheep Detectives

I actually really liked this one a lot. The sheep had their own worldview and limitations that I found quite interesting, and there was a very cute little lamb that I wanted to squeeze very badly. In a way, it could even kind of be a coming of age tale as the sheep are forced to reckon with the outside world after spending their whole lives in the safety of their meadow under the watchful care of their shepherd.

Iron Lung

I really just wanted to know what everyone on Tumblr was talking about with this one. I thought it was a really interesting premise and the cinematography was quite compelling, however I think that it was too long and it was hard to figure out what was going on a lot of the time because I did not have closed captioning available when I watched it and it was often really hard to make out what the people were saying over the speaker. I also had never played the game, so the lore references always felt just out of reach. I had to look some stuff up on the wiki afterwards to retroactively clear some stuff up. However, it was still an interesting watch.

Is God Is

I do not think it's a secret that I was very excited about this movie. The previews got me hooked and I felt the film delivered. Two twins bearing the physical scars of their abusive father meet the mother they never knew and get sent on a mission of revenge. There's a very mythological feeling to this movie that I really enjoyed. The twins and their relationship were very compelling. And, it was both fun and a little cathartic to watch their journey and their confrontations. I really liked the stylistic choice of having some of the dialog between the twins as text on the screen (which mimicked typographical choices in the play), and having multiple narrators describing their own back stories in the third person.
