Gutter-Punk rapper Riz Ventura is releasing Chops and Hops Volume 2 on Friday, 26 September 2014. Chops and Hops Vol. 2 carries the theme of the bittersweet relationship Riz has with drugs and alcohol.
The 7 tracks on the project are delivered in a style Riz Ventura describes as ‘Lyrical Flexing’ with the unadulterated bragging about his some-what toxic relationship with drugs and alcohol. The relationship is masterfully conveyed in the track Sex on the Beach, which describes a getaway with a girl using the names of drinks.
Sex is craftily introduced through the naming of songs such as Linda Lovelace, Bella Donna and Sophia Fiore; all of whom are/were adult film stars. Sex as a theme, in music, often goes hand-in-hand with drugs and alcohol.
Riz extends on the overall theme with hints of political commentary on the tracks Linda Lovelace and Half &Half (a melded song) with references to the coloured culture. The song Sophia Fiore addressed the tumultuous relationship between the musician’s grandparents – speaking on domestic violence and alcohol abuse in their relationship. A dark treat on the project is the track B&T that addresses the musician’s views and feelings on rap music and the influence it has on his life.
The thread that runs through the project is ‘love’ whether it is the yearning for love, the expression of love or the toxicity of love for things such as drugs and alcohol. It is skilfully woven in every track and displayed in Riz’s lyrical flexing.
