“I don’t...I don’t blame you, you know.” She had never intended to speak to her aunt - step-aunt? - but here they were and Daphne couldn’t hold her tongue any longer. Was there a good chance Queen Cinderella hated her? Yes. But she needed to speak up first.

“I mean, we kinda had to do what you did. My sister and my cousins. We had to wait on Grandmother and run her shop and clean and cook...but she kept telling us how we needed to be pretty and get married to a wealthy guy...how that’d solve everything for us. Like we were half you and half our moms. Kinda the best of NO worlds,” she went on, a humorless chuckle escaping her lips.

“The point is...er, your...Your Majesty? The point is, Your Majesty, that...you got out. You escaped. And I can’t speak for my sisters or my cousins but I certainly can’t blame you for that.”
