COMMENT | THE LONDON STUDENT
| Dean Courtney & Chris Dillon
This month’s Lamp & Owl carries an exclusive article investigating and evaluating the work of Jen Izaakson, editor of London Student, the self-styled voice of 130,000 students.
Since her appointment the rumblings of criticism from students and campuses across ULU has grown increasingly loud and frustrated with her performance and attitude.
Our investigation into her history at ULU reveals a damning past. Izaakson became an elected sabbatical officer at Birkbeck in the academic year 2011-2012, but was effectively sacked in July following what could only be described as negligence of her position.
Before her arrival at Birkbeck, Izaakson made a name for herself as the Campaigns & Communications Officer at Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2008-9. We discovered that she resigned from her position following an investigation into questionable behavior, certain sources go as far to say that she was forced to resign, though they were fearful of going into detail.
Now the London Student has chosen to attack ULU institutions and staff for more personal reasons, printing the details of caustic spats with other members of ULU. The LS also recently ran an article implying that Goldsmiths is a fascist institution.
An article recently released by UCL’s Cheese Grater indicates a “souring relationship” between the ULU senate and Jen Izaakson.

We have also spoken to students, some of whom have chosen to speak out against their treatment at the hands of the London Student editorship. See the blog below, giving details of an effective silencing of an alternative point of view than that which was published regarding gay marriage:

Can Jen Izaakson carry out her handsomely paid role of London Student editor effectively?
