There will never be a time when you aren’t worrying about your children… I don’t care if they are 7 going on 8 and only want to take a walk to the library, just a couple of blocks down, like Anna-Kat… Or you have a blossoming teenager and you’re worried about them involving themselves in ‘adult activities’ like Greg was obsessing over Taylor and her mostly innocent relationship with her boyfriend. You just can’t hover and expect anyone to grow, not in the way they need to anyway. Kids, as well as adults, learn from making mistakes. As a parent, or a friend, or an uncle, or whatever you are… It’s your job to make sure they know how to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and try, try again. It sounds cliché, but clichés are usually cliché for a reason… Usually.

Now, don’t get me wrong… None of this means that you won’t need a Xanax to calm yourself down while waiting in the wings…. But being there if anything happens is much better than constantly picking them up or browbeating them if things go wrong.

Fact: We live in a fear based society. It’s true. And now more than ever, there are people with devices at their fingertips that are able to record terrible hinge happening… News spreads faster… It might seem like our world is more dangerous than ever, and I’m not arguing that we don’t have our fair share of problems, but giving your kid a little bit of freedom to make mistakes seems to be a lot safer these days than in the past. Don’t believe me? Take a look at some of these charts the FBI released. It’s safer to be a kid now more than ever!

'American Housewife’ continues to prove its worth in the ABC lineup. Not only do we have a funny sitcom with legitimate character growth, but we are also seeing the show tackling some modern issues and fears that real parents face today. Katie and Greg can’t help but worry about their kids, just like anyone would… But they make conscious decisions to try and give their kids the benefit of the doubt, even if Greg may have flown a $5000 drone directly into Taylor… That’s like… Totally normal, forgivable offense.

I’ve spent a good chunk of the day giving a little TLC to one of ABC Network’s best new Freshman comedies… 'American Housewife’… And it’s been a delight… And don’t think I’ve forgotten about you, 'Speechless’! Right now I’m loving watching these two strong, empowered women raise families in the face of adversity, even though they are two very different kind of adversities! I salute ABC Network… Katy Mixon of 'American Housewife’ and Minnie Driver of 'Speechless’… And let’s not forget the Dad’s either… Diedrich Bader of 'American Housewife’ and John Ross Bowie of 'Speechless’ are also great examples of great men working as equal partners with spouses to make their quirky families the best damn families they can be!
