Comeback Chris Takes Down Shooters 2-4 8-Ball Tourney
On April 17, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted another low handicap one-day event. This time around, it was an 8-Ball tournament inviting players SL 2-4 to compete in this double elimination format. With 36 players registered, the total number of amateur players competing during the weekend, including the Amateur Finale, was 92 players! While the final 12 Amateur Finale players competed for over $8,000, the SL 2-4s were competing for more than $2,200 in prize pool and Calcutta money. Players raced to their handicap throughout the day to determine the champ.
After several rounds of play, there were 4 players remaining on the A-Side: Orlando Ashby vs Svetlana Kozak Tomas Martinez vs Blake Tyas
Orlando cruised by Lana 5-0 and Tomas did the same to Blake, winning 4-1. Over on the B-Side, Terry Upshall and Chris Li were waiting. Both Chris and Terry lost their first matches and fought hard on the B-side to win the next 6 consecutive matches. Chris defeated Lana 4-2 for his 7th consecutive B-Side win, while Blake ended Terry’s running, beating him 4-2. Chris continued rolling, beating Blake 4-1 and waited for the loser of the hot-seat match.
Over on the A-Side, the hot-seat match was taking place between Orlando and Tomas. In this tight match, Tomas came out on top winning the double-hill game 4-4. On the B-Side, Chris Li won his 9th consecutive B-Side match, ousting Orlando once more 4-4. Orlando played well throughout the day to earn his 3rd place finish.
In this true-double format, Chris Li would have to beat the undefeated Tomas Martinez twice to win. Chris showed his dominance in the first set, winning 4-1 and forcing a final and decisive set. The final set would be no different for Chris, as he won his 11th consecutive match 4-1 and took down the tournament. What a fantastic run by Chris, winning 11 in a row from the B-Side to win the whole thing. Congratulations Chris Li for winning Shooters’ “24” 8-Ball Tournament, and a good fight by Tomas Martinez, going undefeated until the finals and finishing in second.
Thanks to all the staff, organizers, players, and supporters who made this tournament possible and for supporting the low-level amateurs..

Lazaro Locks Down Shooters’ ‘3-5’ 8-Ball Event!
On Sunday, March 20, Shooters Snooker Club in Toronto hosted their fourth consecutive Sunday SL 3-5 Tournament. It was the second consecutive 3-5 8-Ball event, as this event seems to be gaining popularity in the pool scene. The unpredictability associated with the field of mid-level amateurs continued to add excitement to these tournaments, and this past Sunday was no exception.
The field was capped at 38 players, identical to the previous weekend’s cap, in order to ensure that the tournament finished in one day. The prize pool was $1,420 and the Calcutta was $1,120.
After several rounds of play, the reigning champion Froland Magsanoc was sent to the B-Side, as four of the strongest SL 5’s remained on the A-Side:
Hossein Arbani vs Kevin Lazaro
Oscar Zapata vs Art Bertoni
Meanwhile on the B-Side, Chris Alimurung and Chris Li awaited their opponents from the A-Side quarterfinals.
Kevin L and Art B won their respective matches 5-2, sending Hossein A to face Chris A and Oscar Z to face Chris L on the B-Side. Chris A defeated Hossein A in a 5-4 match, while Oscar Z cruised past Chris L 5-2. Chris A continued his great performance by beating Oscar 5-2 and securing a spot in th B-Side Finals.
The A-Side semifinals between Art B and Kevin L ended 5-2 in favour of Kevin. Kevin would then wait in the hot-seat, sending Art to the B-Side finals.
