everybody be nice im scared about talking about them online!!!!!!! also going to go insane if this book does end up getting queried and published successfully and someone ends up finding this post or something idk im terrified of digital footprint
soooo these are the 5 main characters of the novel im currently writing!!!! i love them with my whole entire heart and they bring me so much joy, i've worked through a lot of difficult stuff while writing them and they really mean a lot to me. i hope other people will like them too :)
(also sorry in advance for the crappy sketches, i havent had a lot of time recently to do proper drawings so this is about as good as its getting for now)
he is russian-american, age 20 (turns 21, b. 1965), and an INT(P/J)
he is the lead guitar of Welcome to Wisconsin
he is double-majoring in history and english in university, very much an academic and high achiever. likes to read and study things he's interested in
he's that one friend that initially is kind of sarcastic and dry but then you grow to love them
was fairly well-respected in school--he was liked because of being shane's best friend, but also he's got that irreverent sarcastic charm all his own
not exactly your homecoming king but definitely not a loser. weird mishmash of nerd and cool
he speaks russian and english, but has never been to russia (his parents fled the USSR)
a lot of people give him flack for being a russian speaker/having russian culture because it's america and the 1980s, which is pretty sensitive for him
LOVES guitar, and he's tied with chris for practicing his instrument the most out of all 5 of them
takes a while to warm up to people and loosen up, but he's awfully witty and even pretty fun once he does
he might or might not like josie. who is the same girl shane might or might not have been on and off with for the past few years
lowkey hes also a ball of rage at times!!!! and he WILL throw punches when push comes to shove
oh and he's also a big momma's boy. LOVES his mom
sneak peek into his future he becomes a university prof and hes that one dry witty one that seems mean and crusty initially but is actually everybodys favourite and has that sneaking sense of humour
he struggles a lot with anger and navigating his friendship with shane when he gets really fed up with him at times and feels like shane is always pushing him to do stuff he doesn't want to
in the interest of minimal spoilers i will just say. We Will See What Happens

he is the rhythm guitar and lead vocalist of Welcome to Wisconsin
great guy and pretty dumb!!!!! if you looked up himbo in the dictionary his picture would be there
judas's best friend since forever, knows him like the back of his hand and loves trying to get him to be less uptight
flunked out of university so they cancelled his football scholarship
he works as a mechanic at the auto shop, loves what he does and is very good at it. great work ethic
also did i mention he was like the absolute best football player in the state during high school and he pretty much put their town on the map because of that
he loves to tease and has a very likeable sense of humour, everybody he meets leaves with a smile on their face
yes girls love him and it's known that he pretty openly likes josie, those two have had an on and off thing for a few years....we'll see what happens with that
he is a wonderful blend of southern and midwestern, has family in texas
a little intense at times but thats okay shane we love you
he's very emotional, feels things very deeply and is very expressive. unfortunately this is something him and judas do not exactly connect well on
shane waddya mean you hate wet blanket people!!!!! your bestie is literally a sopping wet blanket
him and judas have a lot of increasing tussles throughout the book.....that is definitely their main struggle is with each other and with the tests against the friendship they thought was infallible and eternal

he is the bass of Welcome to Wisconsin
definitely a jock, but at his core he's a very genuine person and way more kind and caring than he himself even realizes
he is absolutely not stupid either, he just needs to apply himself
very outgoing and charming and somehow just Likeable. hes the type that with his guys he'll be a total showoff and do stupid stuff and say dumb things but when he's on his own he's pretty considerate and a person can't help but laugh at his jokes
i know this sounds similar to shane but trust chris is his own brand of guy hes cool hes funny hes a little egotistical hes fighting with himself hes chris!!!!!!!!
chris loves girls and girls love chris. everybody loves chris
he has a big fat crush on a girl named kathleen. we will see how that goes for him
he LOVES prog rock (any yes fans in the house???)
captain of the summerfield high school basketball team
very strained relationship with his dad who is......nuclear to say the least and also chris is kind of a carbon copy of him so they butt heads a lotttt
but he really loves his mom and even though she inadvertently embarrasses him sometimes he would do anything for her
he used to be a great older brother to his younger brother and sister but during high school mmmmm he been leaving much to be desired to say the least
what are those magazines under your bed young man
has been best friends with lunch since forever, but he has a lot of admiration and fascination (platonic) with hendy that eventually morphs into a deep compassion for him (esp. when hendy begins to need him a lot more because of sickness, paranoia, loneliness)
he's in a bit of a "friendship triangle" with the two of them and ends up favouring hendy for a while because he finds him "cooler" as they get older, much to lunch's dismay. but there is red thread tying all three of them together
he ends up kinda drifting from lunch once they hit high school and becomes really popular. but dont worry guys!!!!! that isnt the end
his struggle is mainly with self and his relationships with others. the concept of chris (who blends in seamlessly and is extremely well liked with his high school friends) vs the concept of topher (how lunch knows and loves him). he is christopher who is everything but also something new. also realizing that popularity isn't everything and that his strength lies in his big heart and compassion and love. he just needs to remember that :) even though its not immediately obvious or immediately accessible sometimes he has a lot of tenderness and love in there :)

super duper smart!!!!!! graduating with the highest possible honours, valedictorian, etc he's very intelligent and great at studying
he is generally fairly unemotional, but has a whole lot of love for his parents, his cat Mr. String Bean, and chris (whom he calls topher)+chris's family
he's related to chris! they're probably like third or fourth cousins
he does NOT like hendy and views him as taking chris away from him/being a bad influence (lunch and chris have essentially been raised as brothers, they're very familiar with each other, very very intimate in the non-sexual connotation of the word - they know and love each other so well. lunch is very open with him and trusts him with everything)
very quiet, calm, loves nature and hiking. he has a rock collection!!! loves entomology too
spends a lot of time in the cornfield near his house
doesn't say a lot but when he does it's very thoughtful and carefully put together
he is extremely intuitive and can sense people's intentions/fears without even thinking about it
oh also he's prophetic/receives visions!
a lot of his struggle/growth is coming to terms with change and accepting that it's not a bad thing, as well as learning to be less judgmental and to realize that feeling something is OK after he's been trying to block that for a long time

he is the second drummer of Welcome to Wisconsin after the first one skips town
the biggest troublemaker in summerfield, nebraska
loves his cigarettes, substances, generally an all-around Bad Influence (i do not support this btw jic it had to be said)
fiercely independent and does NOT need anybody else in his life......except in the case of his girlfriend and one other person (spoiler alert that persons name starts with c and ends with hristopher)
despite all appearances he is extremely in love with his girlfriend heather (she is goth and he is punk! arent they perfect for each other) and would kill for her
ends up kinda trauma bonding to chris and i dont wanna spoil too much but they become really really close and hendy has a very pure, genuine love for him. he gets really sick and chris kinda wraps him in compassion in return. i love them
however him and lunch harbor a deep hatred towards one another so that is interesting
deeply alone! screwed up! apathetic! icky and disgusting! but do not be mistaken - he is NOT a cinnamon roll!!!!!!!!!!!! (more like a sinnamon roll)
extremely mean and very angry and generally unpleasant. beats the crap out of lunch more than once. looooooooooves making people mad
also loooooooooooooves setting stuff on fire. who up macdonalding they triad 🔥🔥
oh yeah he can speak english and french and he has a really weird relationship with his parents and his home state (louisiana)
really ill!!!!!!! schizophrenia+depression+chronic pain+dermatillomania+pretty severe dysautonomia+mysterious throwing up but they probably wouldnt have diagnosed him with any of that in the 80s
there are other characters in the book as well but i am fairly busy at the moment so i figured i would just put the main 5 out there for now teehee (compiling this post and drawing everybody's sheets already took me a few days)
also i am Not usamerican but my characters are, so please give me grace on that, but i'm trying to write them as accurately as possible
