Things I’ll Never Say

When it comes to active powers, Oliver Adler the youngest of the psionic witch trio tended to lack compared to his brothers. His empathy and astral manipulation were the closest he had to “active” but it didn’t exactly vanquish enemies rather than used to manipulate them until his brothers came into play or he managed to rhyme his way through a spell. He took up self-defense classes a few months ago and had recently joined a gym where he had been practicing martial arts. One night after he was finished with his class, he’d walked out on the streets of San Francisco, dressed in a red tank top, black shorts, and tennis shoes cutting through alleys to try to save some time. He could have used his Astral Projection to project home and then have his body teleport to his spirit, but it was a pretty nice evening for once during this horribly humid summer.
Cutting through alleys was his mistake.
He saw the poof of smoke and before he knew it some type of demon was slamming him into a brick wall. “Chris!” He called out in pain, hoping his snarky whitelighter would show. He shoved his knee forward, and pushed the other away from him, using his Astral Projection to project behind the man and put him in a head lock. “Chris come on!” He yelled louder his mind racing as he tried to form words. He could see the demon reaching for his athame.
Not good.
“Chris. Christ!” He screamed before he muttered a spell from memory hoping the words were right. He felt a rush sensation through his body and before he knew it a magical portal appeared above his head and rather than suck the demon in, he...was absorbed.
He found himself rolling against the pavement his knees getting scratched up sweat dripping down his neck. Everything seemed normal until he saw black orbs appear and...what? His head was spinning so he didn’t pay too much attention other than scolding his “Whitelighter”. “Demon. 4 o’clock. Trying to kill me!” He warned, his projected self fading away and returning to his body.
