Be Ready

36-41 But about that actual day and time no one knows—not even the angels of Heaven, nor the Son, only the Father. For just as life went on in the days of Noah so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. In those days before the flood people were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage until the very day that Noah went into the ark, and knew nothing about the flood until it came and destroyed them all. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one is taken and one is left behind. Two women will be grinding at the hand-mill; one is taken and one is left behind.

I love that this line captures how you feel at this point in the story. The long battle is over and the age of the King has begun, and you weep. You weep because it has been hard. You've fought and crawled and despaired with the Fellowship every step of the way, and now their work is done and they're healed. Tears flow like wine at the victory.

And, I can't help feeling like Tolkien captured a taste of what it will be like when Christ--our brother, our Captain, our King--returns and establishes a new heavens and a new earth where all our battle wounds--mental, physical, and spiritual--will be healed.
