I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting, but it took me a while to settle into this book. I think I expected the book to start with a Christie mystery and explain the forensics behind it. Instead, each chapter is a specific forensic method detailed out in its science, history, and how Christie used it, along with historical cases that Christie was familiar with.

Two of the cases were ones I'd heard Paul Holes review, and yes, I looked at the Sheppard crime scene photos.

I loved getting to know Christie better, hearing how she improved her own understanding to write better stories, getting a sense of who she was, and hearing about the Detective Club. Oh, to be a fly on the wall there. I enjoyed the Ballistics and Toxicology chapters the best, the first because I love guns, the latter because that was Christie's Forte.

I definitely added more Christie books to my reading list, and my respect for her has grown.

I did notice some minor woke-religion coatings painted here and there. It wasn't heavy-handed, just enough to be minorly annoying.

As a writer, this was an encouraging book to read, just seeing her growth and willingness to get things wrong and keep going.

having a character playlist is like this song is them. this song is who they think they are. this song is their brand of insanity. and this song is about a specific ass situation they were in. this song is about their relationship with another character. that song is about the relationship they would have with another character. this song is them but slightly to the left. this song is totally misinterpreted just to fit them. this song is just their vibesTM. this song is if everything had gone different. this song only has one line that applies to them. and this one has nothing to do with them but i was vibing with it real hard at the same time i fixated on them and now i'm unable to think of it without thinking of them

Did a weekend away with one of my dearest friends. She snapped this picture. I sent it to my publisher because I was pretty okay with it and thought she might use it on the author web page coming someday soon. So that's fun.

I rarely like pictures of myself, but, hey, gotta try, right?

I didn't expect to cry in a historical fiction about John Calvin, but this book took the man I respect and am so thankful for and made him...human. Not by making him vile but by showing his fear, strength, courage, friendship, and love.

For some reason, I thought I was stepping into maybe a middle grade or early young adult book, but it's not. There are some moderately graphic martyrdom scenes that really turned my stomach, along with mentions of the debauchery of life in the dark alleys. So, definitely for late teens on up. But this would be a great book to have high schoolers read while studying church history to help them emotionally connect with the events of the Reformation.

I truly enjoyed this book. It blessed my soul.

My publisher tells me that I consistently retell Beauty and the Beast over and over. She's not wrong.
