as i listened to this song, i didn't receive the normal kinds of scenes that i see when planning a project. instead i saw flashes of Jesus' face in various situations and the things He has done. and i felt lead to use the work i've already completed to make this animatic, as even on their own, each piece was made in worship to Him.

Sightings – S2E16 – “Ouija” – February 12th, 1993

“What do you think? Is the ouija board a harmless toy, or a pipeline to untapped psychic power? It’s marketed as a game and its manufacturer claims no connection with the paranormal. But others believe that ouija boards have been known to make startling predictions. There are even some people who claim the ouija board has changed their lives forever…”

We start out in Satanic Panic territory, with an anonymous "ouija board victim" telling us about a ghost assaulting her after using it.

“The ouija board is not a toy and it’s not a game and I’d like very much to see it taken out of toy stores.”

Anna Foster says it's a "dimensional doorway" and using a ouija board opens you up to being a "receiver station" for spirits - good or ill. Remember her, by the way.

A psychiatrist arrives to tell us about the ideomotor effect, without using the term itself, describing subconscious musculature movements...

Peter Moscow, who we last saw in season one, is dubious, saying many cases of the ouija board are just subconscious movement.

Psychic Shawn Randall, surprisingly, agrees, saying you see what you want to see - if you want to see something upsetting, predictions of doomsday, that's what you'll get from your own subconscious.

Then we take a turn.

On July 9th, 1990, six army intelligence officers deserted their post in Augsburg, Germany. The incident made global news, with the fugitives being treated as potential terrorists, potential Soviet defectors, or potentially abducted by the Soviet Union. These weren't grunts - these were intelligence officers, including a NCO. Five days later, they resurfaced in Florida, in the UFO hotspot of Gulf Breeze, where they were dubbed the Gulf Breeze Six.

They then revealed their reason for going AWOL:

To assassinate the Antichrist.

But here, two of them go on the record to give another explanation: they had been given doomsday prophecies by a ouija board! Specifically, prophecies of the Gulf War & the L.A. riots, among others...

It's emphasized that it only took SEVEN SESSIONS with the ouija board before they went AWOL. Which, frankly, is placid by our modern standards of radicalization. ChatGPT would've had these guys hunting the antichrist after two chats.

I mean, this is 2026! We don't have soldiers going AWOL to fight the Antichrist, we have soldiers going AWOL because their bosses want them to fight the Antichrist

In Gulf Breeze, they told their visions to...psychic Anna Foster. They were arrested at her house. They expected to be thrown in Fort Knox and to never see the light of day again, but surprisingly, all six were simply discharged from the military instead of being executed. Honorable discharges, no less.

Despite this story diluting their story a bit, leaving out the part where they wanted to kill the Antichrist, the Christian eschatology and UFO elements shine through anyway. After they note the ouija board's predictions for 1993, they say six years of chaos will follow - same as the "Tribulation" part of the Rapture mythos. They'll go into hiding until 2000.

What are their predictions for 1993?

An 8.3 earthquake in California - didn't happen.

The formation of the "United States of Europe" - the European Union did form in November 1993, but it was hardly a unforeseen event - there was a lot of buildup to it! The precursor to the EU had existed for decades! And of course the EU is not a single unified country, like they were claiming.

There's a video about this from the channel Wartime Stories that unsurprisingly reveals the group as not randos turned weird by seven ouija sessions, but people already into communing with aliens and hypnosis. Also, one was dating Anna Foster. They weren't just going to see her, they had planned to use her house as a hideout. According to this, the prophecy-come-true that deepened their efforts was not the Gulf War, but a major earthquake in Iran. The spirits in the ouija board sessions were mainly Biblical figures, including the literal Virgin Mary, but the most dominant entity was named "Sapphire", who was from Georgia (how they were able to talk to so many spirits during just seven/eight sessions, I don't know).

If you find some sort of mystic or prophet who "correctly" predicted the future, look closer and you'll usually find one or more of the following going on:

They predicted something that was obvious to anyone paying attention

They made so many predictions that it was statistically unlikely none of them would come true

The predictions were vague enough that they could apply to many situations

People who claim the prediction came true are cherrypicking the parts that seem to describe what happened, while ignoring the parts that don't match what happened at all

Anytime you see someone claiming a prophecy came true, take a closer look. Don't just take claims of prophetic fulfillment at face value!
