God has placed us in areas of influence so that we can be a light to the people around us. You never know who is right next to you that might be going through a really dark night and maybe you are the one that is meant to help bring light into their lives. I love this verse in Psalms 18:28, “For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.” God lightens our darkness and He also calls us to be that same light to others.
