The best love interest for Trixie has been, and always will be, Christopher Dockerill.
I don’t mind Matthew as a character. His relationship with Trixie developed… kind of weirdly over the past two seasons but I think they have chemistry and I like their dynamic. My big issue with them was how they got together. Trixie didn’t mean any ill intent but it rubs me the wrong way how she penned the last words of Fiona, his dead wife, and then she pays her back by falling for her husband??? And then on Matthew’s part it only took him a year to get over Fiona and not only that, but he wanted Trixie so fast and ughh it just feels so shitty.
Christopher was also kind and successful. There was no weird first encounter or weight to their relationship, he was accepting of the fact that she is a recovering alcoholic pretty instantly, and Trixie got along swimmingly with his daughter Alexandra. Maybe it won’t be as easy to explain his relationship with Trixie to Alexandra as it would be for Matthew to explain to Jonty (bc he’ll only remember a life where Trixie is in his life as a permanent staple) but Trixie was never trying to replace Alexandra’s mother anyway.
I know that Trixie and Christopher had kind of a lazy split and were never going to end up together because Jack Hawkins wasn’t interested in sticking around, but I still miss him and the Christmas special kind of solidified that for me.
Can I send you a prompt? Trixie/Christopher/Shelagh- Trixie is heavily pregnant, and the baby is kicking as they are sitting in the car. After a while, Shelagh passes and wonders what all the fuss is about. ‘Christopher! Look!’
She wished she’d remembered to ask Nonnatus about Mrs. Zhao’s files yesterday, but what with their other patients and Teddy’s fussiness encouraging Angela’s newfound dislike of a half-past-seven bedtime, finding her patient’s old records for her appointment the following day had completely slipped her mind.
Strangely, given the early hour, a sporty green car was parked outside Nonnatus. An update in her prescription would be another thing to look into today, Shelagh mused. Though she was certain the handsome couple inside must be Trixie and her beau, at first glance she had been sure Tom was there, which was absolutely foolish. What was more, Trixie looked as though she was pregnant; an even more ludicrous idea. Surely they would have noticed such a change? She was living in a house full of midwives for goodness sake!
That image did not change when she blinked, however, and in fact became even clearer as she approached. And were those suitcases in the back seat?
“Christopher! Look!” Trixie exclaimed as Shelagh approached. The ever-glamorous blonde placed her fellow’s hand on her gently protruding lower abdomen, a ritual common to most expecting couples.
Shelagh’s feet bore her forwards, though she wasn’t sure why, as she felt she ought not to intrude on such a private moment, even if it was taking place in a strangely public setting.
“You look as though you’ve packed for two, Trixie!” Shelagh commented jovially as she approached, indicating the suitcases, but smiling at her own joke. Confused as she was, if a woman was happy with her pregnancy, the first thing she deserved was a congratulations.
The couple looked up at her words, unperturbed that they had been seen.
“We are!” Trixie beamed. “I’m not sure how Nonnatus will react, so I’m bound for Portofino until this little one makes an appearance.”
Christopher shot Shelagh a rueful look. “We may have taken things in an unconventional order, but I’m certain Alexandra will enjoy a sibling.”
Shelagh agreed heartily, though she wondered distantly if she ought to be more alarmed by their calm explanation and the situation in general.
“Toodle-oo!” Called Trixie, as they drove off into the early morning light.
The morning was an unusually bright one, and seemed to be growing brighter and brighter until Shelagh blinked herself awake, shaken to find herself in her own bed instead outside Nonnatus.

Shelagh was on edge the whole day. That pesky dream of hers simply would not leave her be in her waking hours as a dream ought to. She could not shake the creeping feeling that the true dream was her denial of the situation her mind was holding to with such certitude.
She breathed more easily when Trixie strode into the maternity home for her shift.
“Oh nothing like that,” Shelagh paused, eventually deciding Trixie would laugh it off and that would be the end of it. “I just had the most bizarre dream last night.”
