Ok for Scar & Aaron I really like the idea of
32 not really paying attention, both doing something else, but still holding hands
I image them both so immersed looking at files or the bulletin board but unconsciously holding hands and the team just standing by the door happy that Hotch is finally truly happy
a/n: grecy thank you so much for suggesting this cute scene. it took some time to perfect it with the help of @spencersendgame and @gaelic-symphony betaing it but really hope you enjoy it!
longing
pairing: scarlett garcia x aaron hotchner
summary: scarlett and aaron thought they were good at hiding their relationship from the team, but when they hold hands while reviewing case files at the round table, the team comes in and spots them. penelope squeals before they all feel the overwhelming happiness that the pair are finally happy.
warnings: just pure fluff between scarlett and aaron
🌅🌅🌅🌅
scarlett sighed as she flipped through the file she was working on. she felt like she had been at this all day, but really it had been maybe two hours. it was impossible to tell how much she had done and how much was left in the mess of papers on her side of the desk. in the midst of her chaotic disorder, aaron had joined her. the two sat side by side, slowly trudging through their respective files. an odd reminder of college, aaron in her college apartment working on assignment, her being chaotic and sporadic while aaron was neat and organized. she leaned back in her chair, arms lifted in a mid stretch when she felt aaron looking over at her.
“i know that face. what's going on, aar-bear?”
aaron felt his cheeks heat up at his college nickname. it was taking some time to get used to again after all these years since their whirlwind summer romance. he remembered that after that particular summer ended, scarlett had simply shortened it to aar because she hadn’t want to step on haley’s toes. things had been complicated for a while, but it had just started to untangle.
“just watching my love,” he said.
it was scarlett’s turn to have her cheeks burn red. she was still adjusting to her own pet name from her loving angel of a boyfriend. she turned her chair toward him slightly with a smile growing on her face.
“you know i’m surprised the team hasn’t caught on yet,” she said.
aaron’s lips formed a tight smile at the mention of the team, which now included his daughter maggie and scarlett’s son christopher. the two hadn’t told anyone about them yet; they were just enjoying their time together.
“oddly enough for profilers, it is weird they haven’t noticed. i’m just surprised maggie hasn’t figured it out. you know profiling has been her thing since she was little?” he said.
scarlett let a small giggle escape her lips as she pressed her hand to her mouth. a memory of little maggie had popped into her head. maggie was a natural at it, always trying to profile everyone, especially scarlett.
“you’re not wrong there. i think i’m about ready to get back to work now. i want to get at least half my stack done before we have to go home.”
aaron nodded as he watched scarlett turn and resume her work. he smiled in spite of himself watching his blonde ray of sunlight focus in on her work before turning back to his own.
minutes turned to hours as the two
powered through their work, non-
dominant hands inches from each other.
scarlett's pinkie touched aaron's little
finger first, and as he wrote something
with his right hand, he laced his fingers
over hers, a gentle grip on her hand.
scarlett didn't even notice, the feeling of
his touch so natural to her, as she kept
working with her left hand. completely
oblivious, scarlett kept having to put her
pen down to refer to other files. their obliviousness went a step further, so far that they did not even notice the team, as well as sky reid—penelope’s girlfriend and spencer’s twin sister–had walked into the room. the silence they had been enjoying was cut off by the shrill sound of penelope’s happy squeal.
“oh my goodness, awwww!” she cried.
scarlett dropped her pen and looked up at her sister, eyebrows furrowed. she was bewildered until she felt the pressure of her hand being held. she looked over and saw that she was in fact holding aaron’s hand, causing heat to rush to her face once again. morgan elbowed penelope gently as she winced at the involuntary squeal.
on the other hand, aaron dipped his head down a bit, trying to hide his smile. his hand gripped onto scarlett’s hand a hair tighter to try and comfort her. this was not how they planned on telling the team, but it just seemed to work out that way. once he picked up his head, he looked over at scarlett before pulling their hands to his lips, giving her hand a small kiss. the action caused penelope to squeal again.
scarlett rolled her eyes slightly at her sister before she looked at aaron. she allowed herself to laugh softly at the reactions on the team’s faces, though she was not directly looking at them.
though there was a no fraternization rule, most of the team did not care. as long as aaron and scarlett were happy, they were happy. they had watched the two painfully long for the other for a long time, so this was a happy time.
no one seemed to have words to speak on the matter in front of them, emily and maggie pushing penelope and sky inside the room. as they distributed themselves around the room, both scarlett and aaron felt the spotlight on them waver. penelope now seemed to be wrapped up in whatever her girlfriend sky was telling her, something about the newest game she bought. maggie was talking to emily now as they walked to sit down in their normal chairs about their dinner plans for the night. derek and rossi got lost in a conversation about fishing. spencer and christopher leaned against a wall reading a book together, christopher holding onto spencer reading over his shoulder.
everyone melted into their own happiness, leaving aaron and scarlett smiling like idiots. maybe this longing they had for each other was all worth it–they were finally happy. scarlett leaned forward toward her raven haired boyfriend and pressed her lips to his.
nothing else in the world existed except for them and the love they had. the team–their family–was nothing but happy for them.
