Women, "Venice Lockjaw" from Public Strain (2010)

Fragile little ballad tucked away on the back half of Public Strain, nearly undetectable in the towering shadow of "Eyesore." Maybe my favorite track from an album that continues to impress. Excellent soundtrack for the transition to fall, readymade for walking on dead dry leaves in the early evening darkness. Guitarist Christopher Reimer sadly slipped away from this plane in 2012, but there is a "Legacy Fund" set up in his name that is waiting for your donation.

"Locust Valley" comes from Women's second album Public Strain. It's like, the third best song on, like, the fourth best album of the 2010's; you should listen to it. R.I.P. Christopher Reimer

not so long ago, i found myself static, stale with what i thought i should be doing with my life. my interests faded, and i felt myself become too self concentrated. what was worst of all? the music stopped. i couldn't bear to listen to anything. i couldn't even pick up my guitar. and one day, i stumbled across this song by Canadian band Women "Locust Valley. the immediate punctuation of the opening guitar riff, dancing around in between octaves arpeggiating this jazzy, sharp groove. something kind of clicked. i was stepping back in the direction of feeling myself again. all because of this interesting piece of music. Christopher Reimer, the band's guitarist, died in his sleep the other day at the age of 26. mr Reimer, i pay homage to you for your contribution toward the progression of how a band can sound, and for catching my ear. thank you for making me feeling a little better about myself.

Yesterday Christopher Reimer, guitarist for the art rock band Women, passed away in his sleep at the age of 26. If you haven't heard Women before, they play really fantastic angular rock music. Their albums are jangled and exciting with a healthy dose of noisy tracks to keep things artsy and interesting. Christopher Reimer, from what I've heard on record, is a pretty awesome guitarist. The counterpoint guitars on the track "The Shaking Hand" get me every time. I never saw them live, but it had been on my bucket list since I first started getting into their self-titled album last winter. I'm really bummed I'm not going to get a chance to see them (at least not with Christopher Reimer.) So, big ups to Christopher Reimer and Women. Rest in Peace. And for the rest of you, check out the song posted below.

R.I.P. Christopher Reimer The Calgary Herald reports that Christopher Reimer, guitarist for Calgary band Women, died in his sleep on Tuesday. His cause of death remains unknown. He was 26. Man, this is so sad. We fucking love that band and placed their album 'Public Strain' right at the top of last years best album list.
