I’ve seen so many people hating on Bonney’s transformation and I just feel like they fundamentally do not understand the point of Bonney’s arc or Luffy’s character. Her transformation is literally just the effect Luffy has on the people around him manifested to the ultimate degree. Sometimes I wonder if half the “fans” of one piece even understand the core themes of the show they’re watching or if they just want Luffy to be the “cold stoic badass” that most other big shonen heroes are

Hi nonny! I hide in my tumblr corner and rarely get into the wider discourse out there, particularly if it involves variations of power scaling. I think it's fine as a fun thing to do, but as a measurement of character and the main themes of the story it falls short for me. If I find comments or discussion that are not well supported and seem so far off track in terms of an interpretation that gels with my own, I just tend to return to my own echo chamber here where Bonney and Nika are rocking. I seek out like-minded fans, and then I don't get too upset with wonky takes (that probably carry the pong of misogyny, or at least its trace elements). Not to say that fandom-takes don't sometimes get me tapping away at my keyboard, but I'm one aspect of fandom too, and I know a number of folks disagree with my opinions as well. Lots of room in One Piece for angrily shouting at the clouds! When people aren't used to sharing, and the things that they're holding on to get opened up more widely, they'll complain because they'll see it as an imposition or threat to the status quo. Some of them.

The title to the chapter is The Most Free. I hope the anime kept it. It suits her story to a T.

In the panels above, Ex-slave Kuma maybe looking on at Bonney's transformation, and maybe reflecting on his promise to recently released, twice-enslaved Ginny that he'd look after her daughter, and that Bonney beat the physical and societal limitations put upon her is everything. (Not to mention their enduring faith in Nika and the possibility of a better world). Anyway, I just guess folks who think that Bonney's transformation is invalid skipped the Kuma and Ginny chapters because there weren't enough battles.

There was a great LawSan vampire long shot too, with a quick side serving of CoraZoro, and a cast of well-written thousands. I really liked it, but can't recall who wrote it. I should bookmark it. Anyway, of course there are a ton of others I've missed.

14. a fic you didn’t expect to write Ahh, since they've mostly been for zines, etc. I expected to write them all. I guess maybe look how thy brethren fare (2,117 words) (1081 fixit), cos' even though I'd had the idea for some time, I wrote it pretty quickly, so it wasn't deliberated. And it needed a lot of editing from me after publication as a result! As always. Same might be said for Intinction (837 words) (Trafalgar Law contemplates his relationship with communion bread ). My upcoming fics for the Beast Pirates zine, the Baltigo Manifesto and for this year's secret santa all feature characters I don't usually write, but only the last one will see publication in 2025, I think. Hello! Long time, no chat! Hope you're doing well. 7. longest completed fic finished this year: I've mostly been writing for zines and ficlets, so all my stuff has been one shots. Anyhoo: it would be soot-filled sky at 3,168 words. Written for the beautiful OP Hue zine (link to Google Drive with free downloads). Law contemplates everything as the sooty hue of Blackbeard's yama-yama no mi (devil fruit) invades. Also, Brontë's Ring came in at 7,768 words (two chapters), but they're chapters from a full work that was finished a few years ago. Mind the tags on that one.

13. favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

I usually don't listen to music while I write, but if I do, it's something instrumental or low-fi with no lyrics, or not easily discernible lyrics. For example, the soundtrack to Last Temptation of Christ, or Mozart's Requiem, or the Cure's Disintegration, Mogwai, Ali Farka Toure. Also, haven't written much this year! Thanks for the ask.

Hi! You seem quite knowledgeable in this, so I though you might be the right person to ask: I'm trying to find some nice heart pirates fics with them as family doing shenanigans/general stuff. Most of the fics I've found in the Heart Pirates tag in ao3 revolve around a ship involving law and the hearts are just background characters who barely do anything, which isn't what I'm looking for. Do you have any recommendations? (I've already read some of your works, but if you want to recommend those that's good too!)

Platonic Heart Pirates Fics Rec List

Wow! huge compliment.

Yeah, I wouldn't classify myself as a Hearts Pirates writer, but I do write them. I think my best characterisations of them are in my multi-chaptered works, but they're super dark, and the Hearts aren't the focus (but boy do they shine when they get the chance!).

You've probably come across my Bepo's one shots and drabble collection. There's a few shippy pieces in there, but they're clearly marked. Most are just the crew, although focus on the main four. This was also done for the Hearts' Pirates Week, so covers all named crew members (up to that point). This one shot is surprisingly popular: Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On), and you might have come across the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates crews intermingling in this fic featuring Bepo and Chopper. I'm also guessing that you probably saw the piece I wrote for the op summer festival zine: Sun Path Ozoni. An earlier version of that is in Bepo's collection! There's also Bepo's Beptober, which features everyone, but I wouldn't really say explores them in depth!

@itsxandy 's work, stormy weather, is criminally under-read. That's 22,2221 amazing words on Law's dynamic with the crew in the polar tang in close quarters. Not necessarily happy families, but, oof, it's good. Even a very plausible theory put forward for the recruitment of Clione, I think! Or maybe Uni.

Dragon_in_a_Cypress_swamp has 6 amazing Hearts & Trafalgar Law fics too. Really good (I haven't read all, but what I have read just blows me away).

This is not a place of honor by Hyperbolic Reverie (I'm not guaranteeing that all the fics are sweet). And you've probably come across

the devil knows how to row by fab_ia, is set in Law Novel land, but with flashbacks to Law's time with the Donquixote Family. It's a work in progress. But very good. The author is keats on twitter, and I think one of the guest writers for the up coming Hearts zine. Their AO3 actually has a few Hearts' fics I want to pick through.

Dunno if this counts, but the Scrubs AU with Penguin and Shachi as Law's interns, and Bepo as a trusty nurse is both hilarious and poignant. @thegrimshapeofyoursmile

Cal14's recently been uploading some of their tumblr pieces.

@slashseeker (not getting their blog come up) has some platonic stuff on their AO3 page (their slash is pretty good too though!).

And that's about all I know for now. I'm sure you've read / been pointed towards the big collection: Tales from the Heart.

Almost forgot! If you go through @purplehairedwonder 's page, towards the start of beginning to write OP (so second page), there are about 5 fics that I'd classify as Heart centric, or the Hearts seen through Law's eyes. Not necessarily shenanigans though.

It is a ship fic, and it started before a lot of the Heart Pirates were named, but razbliuto's Methyl Nitrate Pirates really builds character and crew (and it's funny). @fablecore

I see a lot of people saying that doflamingo would eventually get out of jail for the final war or join the cross guild or just cuz crocodile did 

But it would really make me mad if he did ? Oda made a whole drama about law having to wait 13 years and to end what cora couldn’t  and he almost died doing it 

i see no point of him coming back but im sure if oda wanted him he will make up a point

Ah, I'm in two minds about this. If I dive deeply into the angst and what Law is worth, then yes, Doflamingo should stay behind bars. I thought the other day that a final reflection of how Law is not the same as Doflamingo is that he didn't kill him (although he tried, dammit! Haha). Part of growth in One Piece is being strong enough to face your (potential) adversaries too though, maybe?

Shanks vs Kaidou, Garp vs Roger (or Rocks?), Big Mom vs Kaidou, Whitebeard vs Oden, etc. Law and Kid just took down Big Mom, and Law fortunately escaped Blackbeard. Maybe he's strong enough to face Doflamingo now, but also maybe he doesn't want to (and maybe he's not).

Doflamingo still has a role to play, given his prison cameos, his pithy quotes, and the seraphim! He's often acted as the One Piece chorus in a Greek drama sense. I also like batshit crazy Doflamingo from a humorous perspective (like, following that other thread looping through One Piece), so part of me would like to see the chaos that he & the Cross Guild could try an make, especially given Doflamingo's words with Croc at Marineford, and the way the shichibukai were far from sane.

For him to get a government release would be some seriously evil shit. But for him to somehow escape would make things interesting. Oda redeemed Buggy, and Croc to a degree. So I don't see him beyond having a role for Doflamingo to play in the future. Sorry, nonny, I'd love to see him come back into the fray, but also definitely do not want a replay of Dressrosa or the events (Including 13 years before) leading up to it. If he's totally redeemed though, I'd be disappointed, but Oda can usually pull off semi-redemptions.

I haven't thought it through 100%, so my thoughts aren't set in stone!

They had the Tang for 11 years actually (wolf gave it to them when law was 15, he is 26 post-ts).... No, I'm not crying... Definitely not mourning...

Ah, I thought he was 16 with the growth spurt and everything. Well, yeah. Such a pretty vessel (with its fierce DEATH emblazoned on the side 😁). Testament to Oda's art work that he viscerally has us mourning the lovely yellow tub (such an anomaly for anyone who wrote a fic/ drew some pics and did some submarine research). Law being a bit older than the other main supernovas has a chance to build up that history (Merry's demise hurt too though. And I didn't know much about Victoria Punk, but oof. So saying, the Polar Tang is (was) my favourite).
