Mind if I ask about the currency in this world? The hotel said that "all expenses will be paid-" is that in the hotel/necessities only? or will they be provided money? if not, how would they gain it? do the characters have to figure this out for themselves or is there someone ic who will explain stuff like this to them? I'm sorry for all the questions--
When the hotel says that “all expenses are paid”, they do mean only within the Lodge, yes. The Velvet Lodge provides complementary amenities. They’re decent enough: a roof over your head with nice furniture, free breakfast, hygiene products, pretty much anything you’d get standard at a higher-end hotel.
What they won’t provide for you is anything beyond that. If you’d like to buy anything outside of it--clothes, shoes, restaurants, a night on the town, weapons, armor, all of that--you’ll need to put in some work to get it.
The economy of the town is a bit simplified; there isn’t really a system of hard cash in place. The economy is partially based on bartering of goods, labor and favors and partially based on treasure. Sometimes you’ll be able to negotiate out a deal with the demons around town for small stuff you want: if grabbing a bite out to eat with empty pockets, for instance, you might be able to get away with it if you promise to help clean up shop the next day.
For the larger things, though, you’ll need to sweeten the deal with treasure.
How to get treasure? Well, you’ll have to stick your neck out a bit for it. Valuable items are found in the more dangerous places in the setting: deep within dungeons and out in the Veil. Treasures may be something as straightforward as coins and jewelry, or they may be more unusual--art, technology, even items from specific universes.
You can’t go awarding treasure to yourself, though--you’ll need to participate in an appropriate thread to get it. The masterlist will make a note of what characters can expect to find when we notify our users of dungeon appearances. If going treasure hunting in the Veil, you’ll need to submit the thread to the mods so we can OK your findings.
(More than likely, you’ll be alright so long as the items you’re tying to gain wouldn’t make your muse excessively wealthy all at once or get them an item that would provide them an unfair advantage over others.)
Currently, there isn’t much information on these matters IC, but in the future, it may be gleaned via rumors spread by demons. Your character might also get a small hint if they inquire at the Velvet Room.
Don’t worry about asking questions--we don’t mind answering!
