Since the beginning of your relationship with Wanda, she had always been there for you on the bad days. “The bad days,” tended to range from bad symptomatic days to poor mental health days, and some days, like tonight, it was a mix of both. You lay awake next to your sleeping girlfriend as you stared at your ceiling, trying to will your pain away. As per usual, you were unsuccessful.
Rolling over, you gazed at Wanda as you listened to her peaceful breathing. As guilt washed over you, you couldn’t help but be jealous that she never had to experience the soul-crushing experience of your illnesses. Of course, she dealt with the injuries she got from her job but it wasn’t the same. You knew if she could that she would take your illnesses on for you, but that’s not how it works. Plus even if it was, you wouldn’t wish this upon anyone, especially your girlfriend.
It was just so unfair. How come everyone else got to go out and live their lives however they wanted, but you could barely leave the house somedays? Hell, somedays you couldn’t even get out of bed. You didn’t do anything to deserve this, so why were you the one plagued with this? Blinking rapidly, you realized you were on the verge of crying.
Attempting to wipe away tears before they fell, you knew you should wake up Wanda. She always helped you feel better and she insisted that she didn’t mind you waking her up. Even so, you hated waking her. Taking a few breaths and repeating affirmations in your head, you gently woke her up.
“Любимый? What’s wrong?” Wanda asked as she blinked the sleep out of her eyes. “I can’t sleep,” You said as you curled into yourself. “And I’m kind of upset.” Sighing compassionately, she pulled you towards her and stroked your hair. “Do you want to talk about it or do you want a distraction?” She asked.
“I think I want to talk about it,” You replied as you felt her nod. “Alright, what were you thinking about before you woke me up?” She asked as she intertwined one of her hands with yours. “That this is all so unfair. I hate being ill all the time. I wish I could go out and be normal like everyone else,” You cried as she squeezed your hand. “It is unfair Милый. I wish there was a way I could take all your pain away,” She sighed as you smiled. “I appreciate it, and I wish you could too.” You responded. “It’s just, it’s so incredibly difficult to wake up every day and know that it’s not going away. That I’ll have to deal with this for my entire life. It’s exhausting,” You vented as she hummed. “You’re so strong, Y/N. I know it’s difficult and I wish I could help you more, but I’m proud of you for continuing through this,” She said as she pulled you to lay on her chest. “Thank you, baby. I don’t want to be strong though, I want to be able to rest.” You sighed as she kissed your head. “I understand,” She replied as you squeezed her hand.
“Does your offer for a distraction still stand?” You asked as she laughed. “Of course, my love.” She responded as you smiled up at her. “How about we start with doing all the things that might help you feel better and then I’ll distract you, okay?” She suggested as you hummed in agreement. “Alright but this does mean I have to get up,” She said as you huffed. “Do you have to?” You whined as she laughed. “Yes darling, I do.” She laughed as you continued protesting as she moved to stand up. “Okay first up, meds, water, and a snack.” She announced as you readjusted yourself to be more comfortable in the bed. “Yes, ma’am.” You said as you sarcastically saluted at her. Laughing, she got out your meds from the bedside table. “Which meds do you need, or just the usual?” She asked as you nodded. “Just the usual,” You answered as she hummed in response. Picking out the right meds in the right dosage, she set them on the table. “I’ll be right back, don’t miss me too much,” She teased as you laughed.
After a minute she came back with a snack bar and a glass of water. “Here you are,” She smiled as you thanked her and took your meds, and began snacking. “You even remembered the straw,” You giggled as she chuckled and sat down on the bed. “Yes, I did. You made a big fuss last time about how drinking in bed is a major issue,” She laughed as you stuck your tongue out at her teasingly. “It wasn’t that big of a fuss!” You said defensively as you held back your laughter. “I don’t think so,” She laughed. “Last time I checked, going on a rant for twenty minutes is kind of a big deal.” Rolling your eyes at her, you ignored her as you focused on eating. “Don’t worry, it was cute,” She adds as you feel your cheeks flush. “Not fair, you’re just teasing me!” You exclaimed as she laughed. “Maybe so,” She chuckled.
As you finished up your snack, she stood up again and took your trash. “Do you want a heating pad or a cold pack tonight?” She asked as you contemplated. “I think a heating pad would be better,” You responded as she nodded. “Alright, I’ll be back in a moment.” As you waited for her, you thought about how lucky you were to have her as your girlfriend. She truly was the sweetest and kindest person you have ever met. When she came back, she raised her eyebrow inquisitively at you. “What?” You asked at her expression. “Why do you have such a dopey lovesick smile going on? Were you missing me too much?” She teases as you laugh. “Yes, but also I was thinking about how you’re the best girlfriend in the world,” You responded as she blushed and handed you the frog-shaped heating pad. “If anything, you’re the best girlfriend, not me,” She replied as she settled back into bed. Now it was your turn to blush.
“Okay maybe, we’re just both very lucky,” You compromised as she moved to cuddle with you. “I think I can agree with that,” She responded as you got comfy. “Now it’s time for your distraction,” She announced as you smiled up at her. “Okay, but first I want a kiss,” She pouted as she chuckled. “Of course, Любимый,” She responded as she leaned towards you. She brought a hand up to cradle your cheek as she kissed you softly and lovingly. You both smiled as you separated. “I love you,” You said as she stroked your cheek. “I love you too,” She replied as you beamed even more. “Okay, you can continue now,” You said as she laughed. “Thank you for the permission, dear,” She said playfully. “No problem, love,” You responded as she moved her hand to brush the hair out of your face.
“Alright, I think tonight’s distraction will be some lullabies. Do you have any you’d like to hear in particular?” She asked as you hummed. “Can you sing the one about the bunny and the bear?” You replied as she nodded. “Of course,” She responded as she began singing. Closing your eyes and listening to her voice, you let yourself relax. As you began drifting off, you felt Wanda press a gentle kiss to your forehead.
