autistic dennis who realizes, through his friendship with trinity and his relationships with jack and robby, that he has spent the first 27 years of his life in constant overstimulation and sensory hell. trinity, who is like "dude, just eat the food you want to eat" while she's watching dennis choke down the food he was taught his whole life that he's "supposed" to eat even though it's a sensory nightmare for him, and never judges him for needing safe foods like mac and cheese after a long shift. jack, who buys him high quality scrubs that don't choke him at his neck or strain against his biceps or fall awkwardly because the fabric is stiff, which makes dennis realize all at once that it's possible to wear clothes and not feel like you need to scratch your skin off. robby, who throws an arm or a leg over dennis when he needs to be settled and grounded and weighed-down in order to sleep.
