I'm not going to say precisely where I work because I and my colleagues have received death threats from animal rights extremist groups before. Yes, I am doing behavioral research to IMPROVE the lives of animals in captivity and in the wild. Yes, some of my coworkers do more medical research like cancer and HIV/AIDS treatments (which are horrible worldwide epidemics and I hope everyone agrees that working towards a cure is a good thing). Or they do medical research that often DIRECTLY BENEFITS the animals in the captivity and the wild (check out this article on vaccinating apes). But we still get death threats.
