📚 #ArtIsAWeapon Huge congratulations to #artist Harmonia Rosales @honeiee on the release of her debut book "Chronicles of Ori: An African Epic." As a long time fan of her art, I'm looking forward to reading this!
Image 2 and caption reposted from @honeiee "...I’ve often wondered what it would look like if Black mythology had its own epic.
With #ChroniclesofOri, I set out to do what Ovid did for Greek myth, to create a mythological canon for the #Africandiaspora.
Rooted in #Yoruba cosmology, my book traces the birth of the universe to the modern world of colonialism and resistance through the lens of the Orishas — reframing them not just as gods of the past but as witnesses, protectors, and participants in everything our ancestors endured.
Greek mythology ends in tragedy.
Norse mythology in apocalypse.
Yoruba mythology in erasure — and the fight to remember and reclaim.
Chronicles of Ori is for the diaspora — from LA, Chicago, and New York, to the streets of London, Lagos, Accra, and Paris, to the rhythms of Rio and São Paulo, to the shores of the Caribbean, Cuba, and beyond.
This book is a building block, a cultural foundation, for what’s to come.
This is our mythology."

In CHRONICLES OF ORI, her debut book, #HarmoniaRosales retells the African myths she has long treasured, crafting an enthralling epic that spans the birth of the universe to the modern world of colonialism and resistance. She writes of the powerful, temperamental deities called the #Orishas; of the founding of Yorubaland by the shrewd leader Oduduwa; of the young heroine Eve, born in a time of violence and despair, who would help her people regain their past splendor; and of shimmering serpents and monstrous shadows who stalk the lands of mortals...
