Why do bad things happen to good people? Job is in MISERY and he's hating his life, but he knows he's done nothing wrong to deserve all that's happened to him. So he just vents about the pain he's in.
But his friends tell him "how dare you? what right do you have to complain? surely you did SOMETHING to deserve this, so shut up. God wouldn't let this happen unless you were a worthless scum bucket, so admit you're a worthless scum bucket and shut up." (I'm paraphrasing obviously.)
But we, the reader, know that Job is blameless, innocent, and is being used as a pawn in some game between God and the devil.
How often are we, in our modern world, like Job's friends? When we interact with someone who is struggling with pain or disability or something have we told them that the problem is with sin, or faith, or that if they just LET Jesus heal them they will be well?
As someone who is disabled, if I had a dollar for every time someone said that to me just in my own church I would have bought the building and turned it into bar called "Shut the fuck up".
