Yesterday, I was talking to my friend about Pokemon and their typing, which led me to ask him what typing he thought I would be if I were one. He said Bug/Rock, then proceeded to say that a rainbow gem wasp would be cool. That suddenly made me think of cuckoo wasps, and how a Chrysidid with body parts made up of gems would be interesting. Keeping in mind that this doesn't look like a pokemon, nor is it drawn in the Ken Sugimori style. Most bug pokemon have 4 legs instead of 6, and I originally drew the wasp with 4 legs, but the entomologist in me felt it just looked wrong, so I added in the middle pair of legs, it looks more complete. I know that Chrysidids technically have 5 tarsomeres, but I reduced the number for the sake of simplification. In conclusion, this was an interesting experiment. I may come back to this idea and try to illustrate an even more accurate concept/depiction while still keeping the gem motif.
