             SHE’S  A  BEAUTIFUL  GIRL.  so  pretty  she’s  hard  to  look  at  sometimes,  kate  has  to  avert  her  eyes,  duck  her  head  like  she’s  avoiding  looking  into  the  sun.  christina  towers  over  kate,  a  good  half - foot  difference  in  height  between  them.  sometimes  feels  like  it’s  impossible  to  hide   /   dark  eyes  draw  her  own  like  magnets,  gentle  &  terrifying  all  at  once  like  a  question  for  redemption.

              THERE’S  NO  DOUBT  BY  NOW  that  she’s  grown  to  be  one  of  the  people  kate  is  closest  to  /   inexplicable  trust  found  despite  the  bad  situations  on  either  side.  murmured  promises  that  they  won’t  leave  each  other,  linked  pinkies  &  a  heart  turned  so  soft  for  christina  it  might  as  well  belong  to  her.  it’s  not  something  kate’s  used  to,  it’s  not  something  she’s  really  familiar  with.  not  like  this.  crushes  are  usually  on  boys,  that’s  territory  she’s  familiar  with.  embarrassment  &  maybe  a  little  bit  of  shame  settles  in  her  stomach  /  nags  at  the  back  of  her  mind  whenever  she  glances  for  a  little  too  long,  admires  a  bit  too  openly.  yeah,  kate’s  got  a  crush,  and  no  clue  how  to  handle  it.  so  she’ll  ignore  it,  pretend  it’s  not  happening  until  she  figures  out  what  she’s  supposed  to  do  with  it.  settle  for  being  friends  until  sense  is  made  of  the  situation.  friends  is  more  than  enough,  anyway ;  christina  may  be  tough  but  her  presence  still  shines  like  the  sun   /   kate’s  certain  that  anyone  who  spends  time  around  her  should  feel  absolutely  lucky.
