This is a post about how and why I love Dark, and I just wanna talk about this. I was gonna put it on a different post but I really didn't mean to do that and just want this on my blog. Thing is, sometimes it's like the fandom is split in two: the half that shallowly adores Dark because he's sexy and strips away his personality or the half that thinks he's fun and silly so they glaze over Dark's sexual appeal.
But Dark can be both fun and silly and adorable while also being a suave playboy. He can be drop dead gorgeous and a ridiculous brat at the same time!
Take book three for example, one of the first books that showcase Dark's personality. We actually get to see him have an ounce of freedom when he takes over Daisuke's body, and unrestrained, he begins to have fun. That's when we can begin to love Dark, because we're actually learning about him. He gets to play around as Daisuke and do whatever he wants, and what's the first thing he does? He hits on woman. He takes the opportunity to flirt with every freaking woman that he comes across. And he's good at it. And he's not even in his own body: he's so good at flirting that being Daisuke is simply seen as a fun challenge for him - this guy has got it down to an art. He romances the shit out of them.
And you know what? It's funny. It's stupid. It's adorable. He's romancing the shit out of these woman, and is acting all superior about it, but it's so silly because all he wants is to see them blush and have a good time! And when that's what happens, he get's so happy! Here he is, parading around like he's about to go fuck shit up and when someone blushes (even if he gets slapped) he's like Mike from Monster's Inc. looking at himself on the cover of a magazine:

Even if he's doing this for selfish reasons like trying to get a sacred maiden, he's still getting happy over nice things, and he's still really good at it, and that's so fun to see.
And in doing this, he's actually being genuinely charming. We get to see how fun he is, and how happy he can get over small things. And how attentive he is. These are genuinely good traits that can make someone attracted to him. Seeing him having fun being flirty is endearing. Seeing him being sexy is one thing, but knowing he has good foundation underneath makes it all the better. It's like sexy x2
We're talking about a person who can stroke a person's face without a moments pause, a person who wanted Riku to sit on him in the snow, who can fake a blush and who isn't afraid to kiss but doesn't just do it willy-nilly because his kisses are really meaningful to him, too. He has the emotional depth to back up his sexual appeal and make it even more appealing.
Yeah he hits on Risa when he first meets her but literally the first thing he says is,
like yeah he's sexy here and he's trying to be cool but he's also saying something that shows his genuine concern and both aspects are sexy. And later his friendly concern terns into outright worry as he tells Risa not to wait up for him any more. He's three-dimensional.
and yet he has these dark wings and this magic and this awesome title that surpasses him

Dark is! cool! and endearing! at the same time!
point is:
Him being silly AND sexy doesn't contradict each other. They're traits that can compliment each other in the best way. Sex appeal is what Dark breaths. And there's nothing wrong with that - he can still have his own personality while being this way! He can be both. Let's appreciate that for the wonder it is. Because the truth is he's just as sexy as he is silly, and that's part of what makes him so interesting.
