Hermione scratches her neck before she lets an awkward chuckle escape her mouth. It’s true that Alicia has never judges her, even when Harry and Ron were doing so, back when they were younger. She even defends her against Malfoy, the first time he called the younger witch a Mudblood. 

“Don’t tell Ron or Harry about it...” She starts, hesitating for a short moment. Even for herself, it was quite hard to believe someone asked her out. She’s a very ordinary girl, after all, and she can be annoying sometimes. “But I’m doing to the Yule Ball with someone.”

“How’re you holding up?” Hermione knew that everyone was anxious about the next match, which was, of course against Slytherin. Harry had been working them hard and she hoped they were not too exhausted. Spotting her fellow Gryffindor in the common room, she took a seat near her. “I heard you’ve been having a lot of practices. You think you guys are all ready for the big match?”

“Some things never change...” Charlie sighs, folding away the parchment he’d been comparing everyone’s timetables against. This is the third time this year they’ve had to reschedule practice because of Slytherin meddling, and it’s barely two months into the schoolyear.

He looks back over at Alicia and quirks a half-smile. The hell with the competition, honestly. He’s going to miss this team. Look at her— twelve years old and she’s already as good and as dedicated as anyone his age ( or older!) He wishes he could stick around to see what she accomplishes when she gets off the reserve team.

“We’ll show them on the pitch, though, right?” he adds and gives her his best captain face. “Don’t go picking any fights over this.”
