"I loved my brother so much. And I know he loved me. Right out of the womb, he was my instant, ready-made best friend. And from that moment on, we absolutely loved being together. "Charles & Darren" were an inseperable, dynamic duo. We shared nearly everything and looked out for each other. He was my confidant and companion as we discovered the world together. As we got older, music became one of our greatest bonds. And as an artist, he possessed a raw, inimitable talent that never ceased to inspire me. A distinct voice and songwriting style that I greatly admired for its singularity and sincerity. His impressive skills as a musician mixed with his poetic observation of the world yielded a prolific amount of music that was endlessly unique, clever, fun, intriguing and beautiful to me...A fitting metaphor for his very soul. We were each other's culture & comedy brokers. Nostalgia & adolescence witnesses. Video game & basketball buddies. Unwaveringly supportive audience members. He was my favorite playmate, schoolmate, bandmate - and I am so eternally grateful that I got to share the adventure of growing up with an older brother like that. My life is better for it." - Darren Criss Rest in Peace, Charles "Chuck" Criss (April 15, 1985 - February 2022)

Chuck's widow posted a video of the recording session of „She just laughed at me because my jokes lacked comic timing“. Since this was a joined project of Chuck and Darren and you can see Darren in the video, I hope that means that there was a reconciliation between Rio and the Criss family. It would be a pity, if Dylan has to grow up without Darren, Mia, Bluesy and Cerina in her life. They are her family and Darren and Cerina can tell Dylan stories about Chuck's childhood and youth, that no one else can tell.
strange how earlier today my time spent here was on my mind, and I thought of how important all of this and all of you were in a time where I felt so lost and stuck. even though i’m not really here anymore, i’m grateful for all of it, and I was feeling that today. and then - the news of chuck.
at the end of 2020, I got to take a handful of guitar lessons with chuck over skype. it meant the world to me - guitar was the first lifeline of my isolation in the pandemic, something i took on without any outside help or point of reference up until that point, and chuck was the first one to tell me I was a great guitarist, that I was capable of playing anything I wanted to, that I needed to give myself more credit. this was so fucking important to me then, and his immediate confidence in me gave me so much more confidence in my own abilities.
and now it’s march of 2022, and I don’t really open tumblr much or read fanfiction or write or think about glee. I moved out on my own, fell in love with an amazing human that I’m now building a life with, rescued a tiny, sick kitten from the street and fought for her life, and have come into my own infinitely more. things change so much so quickly in ways i never could have anticipated, and though the presence of this blog and community is so much different in my life now than it once was, it doesn’t diminish that all of this was so incredibly important to and for me.
and the hours I spent sharing music with him will be tragically, unthinkably, much more important to me from now on, too. thanks for the confidence, the conversation, and the time, chuck. I hope you’ve finally found peace.
