Ohmigoodness she turned out so CUTE. I’m in love with her pigtails. 

Kirra Darling–eventually known as “Chuck”--as a kid. I based this off of Pokemon GenV’s “School Girl”.

Warm and Sweet

Inspired by Celesse’s cute art! 

Kirra clambers up the Trips to the Out-Inside–bounces on the squeaky part–and toddles into the Food Place.

It smells warm and happy and sweet.

Mummy stands at Don't-Climb-Please with a pot and lots of jars; Daisy sits at the Everyone-Loud-and-Food-Together, Inventories out in front of him.

Kirra pushes over a Sitting and clambers up.

"Hey, kiddo," says Mummy. She has Pretties in her hair and they're moving.

"Buzz," says Kirra.

Mummy nods, checking on a jar of sticky Buzz. "I have bees in my hair."

Kirra likes sticky Buzz. It's sweet. She reaches–

Mummy hands her a block of Buzz house.

Kirra coos, plunks down on her Sitting, and noms away at it.

"When I'm done here," says Mummy, "how would you like to help me plant more flowers?"

Kirra’s very sticky but cheers, "'witty!"

Mummy glows prettier than all the Brights in the sky. "Well then." She turns. "Daisy, you mind finishing up here?"

Daisy grunts, unfolds himself from his Sitting and lumbers over, big hand hugging Kirra's head–

She grins up into the Clap Side, smearing sticky Buzz all over.

–as he passes, then picks up Kirra's Sitting and moves it–

Kirra squees!!!

–away from Don't-Climb-Please.

Mummy says laugh-coloured, "Thank you, Daisy." Offers the Spoon.

Daisy grunts again, takes Mummy's Spoon and spot.

Kirra's sticky–

Buzz house!

Kirra noms.

"Up you go, kiddo," says Mummy, lifting Kirra into her arms.

Kirra coos, gets a sticky handful of Mummywear.

They leave the Food Place and cross the Out-Inside–

Mummy doesn't bounce on the squeaky part.

Kirra looks back, nursing the Buzz house, and pretends it squeaks.

–down the Trips without tripping, and to the Spoon Place.

"Hang on, love," says Mummy.

Kirra snuggles close.

Mummy stoops and swings up her Spoon bag.

"'poons," says Kirra.

"Got my tool bag and my best helper," agrees Mummy.

Kirra hums around her Buzz house, tucks her head under Mummy's chin.

("Trips": Stairs; "Out-Inside": Veranda; "Food Place": Kitchen; "Don't-Climb-Please": Counters; "Everyone-Loud-and-Food-Together": Kitchen table; "Inventories": possibly inventory logs, but Kirra just recongises papers with lots of writing; "Sitting": chair; "Pretties": flowers; "Buzz": Bees, honey ("sticky Buzz"), honeycomb ("Buzz house"); "Brights": stars; "Clap Side": palm of the hand; "Spoon": possibly a spoon–Kirra's word for any kind of tool, tool shed ("Spoon Place"), tool/gardening bag ("Spoon Bag").

Buzz

Inspired by shazzbaa’s huggable bee.

Kirra floats another Pretty on Tilda's head.

Tilda huffs.

""Kirra!"" calls Mummy. ""I'd like to show you something!""

"S'ow?" says Kirra, pushing herself to her feet.

""Over here!""

Tilda stands carefully.

"Come come!" Kirra toddles across the Emu Place over to the Buzz Houses.

Tilda grumbles at her heels.

Mummy!

Mummy smiles hugely and opens her arms for Hugs.

Kirra smiles hugely and climbs into Mummy's lap and hugs her and kisses her neck.

Mummy giggles, strokes Kirra's hair, hugs her back.

Tilda squawks.

"I'm sorry, Feathers, am I ignoring you?"

Kirra giggles, buries her face in Mummy's neck.

Tilda ruffles.

"C'mere, you big featherduster."

Tilda snorts, struts closer beside Mummy and Kirra, sits down with a noisy fluffing.

"Ooo, so pretty!" Mummy adjusts a Pretty. "Did you do this, Tilly?"

Kirra giggles, "Mummy!"

"Or was it you, tyke? Did you wrangle the Great Tilda into sitting still for five minutes?"

Kirra preens, "Didit."

Tilda huffs.

"You both look /gorgeous," says Mummy.

"Danku!"

Tilda whistles, puts her head on Mummy's knee.

"You guys wanna see something neat?"

"Peaze!"

Mummy leans forward--

Kirra twists and slides to sitting.

--cups purple Pretties. "See?"

Kirra leans forward.

The Pretty has a Buzz.

"Buzz?"

"It's a Bee."

"Bee."

"It's fuzzy, like Tilda."

Tilda snorts.

"You can pet it if you're careful."

"Buzzy."

"Watch." Mummy moves so very gently with one finger and touches Buzz.

"Buzz," says Kirra.

"Your turn?"

"Buzzy." Kirra reaches--

Mummy takes her hand, shifts closer to Buzz, folds all but one of Kirra's fingers, and they move ever so gently and touch--

"Ta!" squeals Kirra.

"Tilda's just as soft, isn't she?"

Tilda scoffs.

"Gan!"

"Again?"

Kirra nods.

Ever so gently, they stroke the Buzz, and then it buzzes away to the Buzz House, and Kirra and Mummy and Tilda sit with the Pretties and listen to the Buzzes.

Chuck Darling, Never have I ever tried to imitate something I saw in a movie

She totally didn’t try out the ‘Jurassic World’ raptor whisperer scene with emus when she went home on leave. Totally didn’t.

Kirra is proud to say she’s never been in handcuffs. 

Zipties on the other hand, yes, but it didn’t long!

The nest cushions shift under Chuck’s weight.

Jackson keeps his breathing nice and deep and even.

A gust of chill air as she lifts the blankets.

He shivers.

Chuck tucks herself in, presses her back to his, sighs.

Jackson sighs, too—happily—treats himself to a smile.

Chuck murmurs, “"You know, idiot—”“

‒Hush a minute, Vee.‒

Vee dims—

Jackson visualizes rainbows.

—giggles, weaves Vee-self into the colours.

”“—if you ever scare us like that again, I’ll never forgive you. You’re not going anywhere, understand?”“

Jackson swallows a squee, buries his face in the pillow, just to make sure.

Ducks

(November 15, 2016; Fei Yen is about 22 months old.

Charlie, balancing Fei Yen on her knee, Mister Soap, and Ducky sit at a refectory table, eating lunch. 

Charlie (20;7, Black (Indigenous) Australian, 5’10”) turns a page in her textbook. 

Mister Soap (0;4.7, yellow rubber duck, 2 ¼“) sits on the table contently. 

“Yum yum yum,” hums Fei Yen (1;9.10, Chinese, 2’6”), arranging gummies for Mister Soap. 

Ducky (13;3.2, White (1st gen Irish) Australian, 5′4″) glowers. 

Charlie ponders a cannon diagram.  

“Duck.” 

Mister Soap comes down hard on a blue monster. 

“BOOM!” 

Ducky hunches over his mashed potatoes. 

Mister Soap’s shadow looms over another gummy. 

“Have any highlighters, Ducky?” 

“Duck—” 

Ducky yanks a handful of markers from his backpack, dumps them on the table, returns to his lunch. 

“Thanks,” says Charlie. 

Fei Yen studies Mister Soap. 

Ducky grunts. 

Fei Yen says, “Duck.” 

Mister Soap falls on a gummy. 

“/Duck.”  

Mister Soap lies on a gummy. 

“/Duck!” 

“What?” snaps Ducky. 

“Duck!” Fei Yen grabs Mister Soap. “Duck!” 

Ducky grumbles, returns to his lunch. 

Fei Yen fumes, twists in Charlie’s lap. “Duck.” 

“What’s up, Feiby?” 

“Duck!” Fei Yen waves Mister Soap at Ducky. 

“I don’t quite understand what you’re trying to say,” Charlie says slowly. “One sec?” 

“All kia!” 

“I’ll be quick.” She leans back, scans the refectory. “Oi! Miyahira!” 

From the other side of the room, ““Yea?”” 

“C’mere!” 

“”Coming~!”” 

Charlie smiles at Fei Yen. “Duck is coming?” 

Fei Yen grumbles, throws down Mister Soap. “Duck.”

Ducky scowls. 

Miyahira (19:1.3, Ryukyujin, 5′6″) skids, skips, and lands beside Charlie. “What’s—hey, Fei Yen! How’s life?” 

Fei Yen gives two thumbs up. 

“Awe-some,” replies Miyahira. Addresses Charlie: “What’s up?” 

“You,” Charlie squeezes Fei Yen, “keep saying ‘Duck’ and I can’t figure it out.” 

“Duck?” asks Miyahira. 

Fei Yen, picking up Mister Soap. “Duck.” Points him at Ducky. “Duck.”  

Ducky uses a little more force than necessary hacking at his meatloaf. 

“Are they both ducks?”

Fei Yen bounces. “Duck! Duck duck!” 

Charlie winces. 

“Are you trying to say they both have ‘duck’ labels?” 

Lost Fei Yen on that one. 

“You can call both ‘duck’ and you’ll be correct.”

Fei Yen nods. 

“That is some /incredible learn-age there, kid.” Miyahira holds out her fist. “Awesome fistbump of smartness.” 

Fei Yen gleefully throws forth her own. 

The loudspeaker crackles. 

“That’s my cue,” apologizes Miyahira. “Gotta jet.” 

“Thanks,” says Charlie. 

“Byebye,” says Fei Yen. 

Ducky grunts. 

“Later folks.” Miyahira heaves herself to her feet, jogs from the refectory. 

“I’m not a duck,” grumbles Ducky. 

“You follow me everywhere.”

“I—,” He stabs his potatoes. 

“Finish up or you won’t grow up enough to be my co-pilot.” Charlie poofs Fei Yen’s hair. “Same to you, kiddo.” 

"Big duck.”

Once children speak their first words, their language acquisition seems to grind to a halt, spending almost an entire year using only holophrastic utterances for no physiological, cognitive, or [?] reason. (who? when?)

Fei Yen has just learned the arbitrary nature of language and has shortly moved on to two (and later, three) word utterances (though probably not this quickly; Gillen, Julia. 2003.)

She can now produce /L/ but /r/ in the word-final position is a bit beyond her still, as is the /kl/ consonant cluster. 

I imagine that, in 2017, they have more food than what we saw in the movie, but this is an excuse to have another source XD

12: Is your OC sexually active?Yup. Debuted at a party (in a closet) when she and he were 17 and tipsy.13: What is your OCs earliest memory? Emus, Mom, and Dad. Walking under this particular emu felt like walking through a curtain of feathers.
