   No one could blame Eric for being tired.

   Well – except maybe Grimsby. But he'd also been the guy who had had his back and been with him since childhood – so there wasn't much Eric would begrudge him.

   Princess after princess, girl after girl. He seemed to be getting so much more of the sailing time he wanted – without any of the freedom that he'd always found in it. He was dutifully forced from kingdom to kingdom, to bow and meet with women who just – didn't get him. The jokes he told fell on deaf ears. The ones that they returned with confused him. They were intellectual, and beautiful, and fantastic – but they didn't like the instrument he played, and they thought his dog was far too shaggy and wild, and their idea of a perfect prince was one that sat in silence and did what he was told, one who wore suits and had his men do his work.

   One who wasn't Eric. 

   It was weeks before his eighteenth birthday, and through way of pleading but mostly cajoling, he'd been allowed to get on open water, take a trip to somewhere he wanted to go. Which was... well... he didn't really know. But the world that was appearing on the horizon... didn't seem like altogether a bad place to dock.
