return of the textured brushes, and a unicorn prince 💜
if Revamp came out 10 years ago they would have had the gods most perfect tumblr sexyman on their hands in Ciar
he is a vampire, he is emo, he only wears black and can transform into crows, he has abandonment issues, he is in unrequited gay love with the main character, he wants to kill people but only as a rebelious streak
dont trust bugs, they'll mess your life up, man
(more netherbound redraw stuff to match my updated design sensibilities. lily, iesha, and ciar - who got the biggest rework)
I present to you this A plus beautiful Ciar facial journey after Ramil decided to praise him.
Dad said something nice to me instinct immidiately triggers puppydog response.
Wait, he's praising me for what now?
Is he using reverse psychology on me? Is he? Oh no. Is it working?
It's working. Fuck you, dad.
It’s fine. It’s fine. Can you… help me? Please.
REVAMP | EP9
bless revamp for giving us Barcode as an emo disaster raven boy with attachment issues 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
But also I really adore all their backstories because they're so specifically character building.
Menthus was a prince and a leader in the army - his entire human life was wrapped in duty and honour, in the carrying out of responsibilities owed to his people. When he swore to serve Ramil, it was an oath taken with the weight of a life lived under the burden of carrying a country's devotion, which is why, even 1000 years later, it's Menthus that is the only one who's life is still entirely devoted to Ramil.
And because he knows the agony of betrayal, it is Menthus that has sorrow under the fury in his face. This is a wound reopening in a way that the other two don't know.
Ciar meanwhile has a deep-rooted mistrust of humans, born out of how violently his innocence was destroyed. Not just killed, but to be sacrificed for a some kind of likely demonic ritual; it's no wonder Ciar hates humans in a way, again, the other two don't. It's also made clear that he was killed (and hence became a vampire) when he was still a 'child'. So his impulsivity is partly because he never aged past youth.
And yet-- and yet, Ciar has spent at least part of the last 1000 years helping humans. Those who have lost their loved ones, some of whom have been taken advantage of. Like he definitely gets something out of it (it's implied he feeds off his followers) but he's also gathered a whole cult of devotees, which means Ciar, for all his professed hatred, has a softness at his core that he tries desperately to hide.
And of course Mekhin was a combat medic. Not just someone who wants to heal, but someone willing to go into the line of fire to do so. Someone who will walk into a warzone in the midst of everyone else trying to kill each other, and risk his life to save others.
This lines up so well with the sweet kindness and unwavering determination to do what he thinks is right that we see in Mekhin - the one that prompts him to heal hunters after they literally tried to kill him.
But his tragedy is personal and directed inwards and tied to becoming a vampire. The horror of likely waking up with his dead family around him and their blood on his hands: it's something that stayed with Mekhin.
This is why he has a phobia of blood and also why he chooses to heal as a human. He's the only one who expresses a wish to live as human as possible because being a vampire is tied to the worse moment of his life; again, in a way the other two cannot relate to.
All 3 of them have gone through such unfathomably horrible things, and yet have somehow found a way to live with hope. Whether it's born out of Menthus' devotion, Ciar's defiance, or Mekhin's determination - they have each created full lives which are now threading back together because of their love for Ramil.
This show is fleshing out the supporting cast beautifully and making details in previous episodes take on a new weight in a way that I just. <3 I am so grateful for this.
I am still mad that Barcode got this hot.
And so pouty.
