We all saw the video. A device that is worn in the same fashion as a watch that projects a phone interface onto your arm. Very exciting technology, but is it real? Well, Cicret recently surpassed their $500,000 crowdfunding target to get this product to the market. You need to watch this before you do anything.

Enter Cicret, the smart bracelet you probably saw on your Facebook feed... According to the promo video, Cicret uses mirroring to project your smartphone screen onto your skin so that you can control it as if it is built into your arm. So far, so AI.
However many a question has been raised on the legitimacy of the wearable, how would it work on someone who has very hairy arms, for example. A number of people have been skeptical about whether the bracelet is even real...
Cicret have tried to counter many of these concerns on their website - by stating the bracelet would work with different skin colours, along with a team page with ‘ex-Apple’ employees. Digitales is still not sure it would invest though... mainly due to the questionable grammar...

Cicret: The Smartphone Display... on your SKIN.
According to a recent article by Entrepreneur, inventors have created a bracelet that connects to your smartphone and functions just like it. What separates this gadget from other bluetooth-enabled wristbands is not only it’s super cool, high-tech projection screen that lights up and functions like your smartphone, but also the fact that it’s waterproof. As an avid smartphone user, I need to share a few concerns that I have from a consumer perspective with the new “Cicret” bracelet (should the company find the funds to release it publicly).
One of my initial concerns with this product is how reliant it’s waterproof technology is. Per a recent article from TechRadar, “33% of broken smartphones are accidentally damaged by water.” Additionally, the world just witnessed Sony, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of electronic products, make a hugely controversial change to it’s Xperia “waterproof” device as the company now says that this product should not be used underwater (xperia blog 2015). Some brands, however, have been very successful with their waterproof technology releases such as Samsung. In 2014, Samsung released their Galaxy S5 mobile device that WOWed buyers with how much the product actually resisted any type of water damage. Although the Cicret bracelet is not considered a smartphone, in the mind of an electronic consumer, it still operates like one. Do you think the inventors of this product have considered all avenues in their waterproof design, or do you think it could end up like another Sony failure? I’m sure that “techies” are not confident that the product will stand up to it’s fully waterproof design, especially given the fact that they have not yet established any kind of brand recognition to date. Sony is one of the most well-known and preferred electronics brands in the world, and they still could not deliver a waterproof design successfully. What makes Cicret any different?
Another concern that I have with the Cicret bracelet is its style and design. Although the bracelet is offered in 10 unique colors, it is not very fashionable for the every day user. In fact, the bracelets very much resemble that of the Jawbone UP band, which quickly changed its style to fit a more fashion-focused buyer (Jawbone UP3 depicted below). When purchasing a Cicret bracelet, the buyer will be forced to pick from 10 bold colors that will draw attention to the person’s wrist, no matter what outfit they are wearing. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have people notice other things such as how well my outfit matches, my new shoes or even how fabulous my makeup looks, not the block on my wrist.

Lastly, according to the article, the price of the Cicret is still unknown. Its inventors will need to be strategic about the price tag that they place on this new product if they expect consumers to buy it. They have already introduced exactly how the product is built by placing emphasis on all of its technical specifications. Are these parts cheap enough for the manufacturer that the company will be able to offer the Cicret bracelet at a competitive price? From a consumer perspective, it seems like an extraordinary build that would come with an extraordinary price.
Although I’m skeptical of the new Cicret bracelet innovation, I’m excited to see if the creators raise enough money for the product to hit production, and if it does, how consumers will react to it. It’s certainly different than other smartphone accessories that we are used to but will it hold up to the value it advertises? We will see!
