Frozen Lessons
Jennifer let out a breath of air, watching it fog up against the relatively warmer air outside her body, and stretched. If ever there was one advantage to having a body like that of an ice demon's, it was the immunity to the cold.
And the extra inches in height.
She stood almost six feet tall in this form, with a long tail that sprouted out of her lower back that was three feet in length with a spade tip. Two, curving graceful horns curled up out of the front of her head and reached back through her midnight black hair, and claws adorned her hands and feet.
When she looked down at the calm surface of the lake, she noted with some relief that she still retained some of her facial features that marked her as Asian, although it was different enough from how she normally looked that no one would know her if they spotted her in this form.
Of course, being several hundred kilometers North of Pacific City certainly helped with that.
"Okay, lets... lets just try something small and simple," she said aloud, more to calm her own nerves than anything else. Closing her eyes, she reached inward, easily retrieving a simple ice spell from the library of magical knowledge that had been embedded into her mind.
She spoke softly as she opened her eyes, her mind focused on the task at hand. From out of nowhere, magic gathered in her right hand, coalescing and taking the shape of a small ball of white frost. It wasn't so much a solid ball, as it was a number of frosty flakes that had gathered together to form a ball, and she could see small sparks of odd magic escaping it.
As she finished her incantation, she tossed it out into the middle of the large lake with a flick of her wrist, and watched with satisfaction as the surface froze... and continued to freeze until it was a solid sheet over a foot thick.
"No!" she shouted in frustration, a gust of cold wind and snow blanketing the shore as her magic reacted to the flare of her temper. "I only wanted to make a small island, not freeze the entire thing!"
