L: How many times do you revise your fic/chapter before posting?
Oh dear. Right now I am in a death spiral of revising Goodnight Sometimes 7 - each time I think it’s the last, and it turns out not to be.
The answer is, as many times as it takes until I think I can’t improve it any more, and that can be up to maybe ten times. It’s a habit imported from academic writing (you don’t let it go if you don’t think it’s right). I don’t expect a first draft to be postable, so it normally takes two or three run-throughs to get it into reasonable shape, then I edit, type it up, read it and redraft, often to the point that I begin to get frustrated with myself. But I always get there in the end, and I’m never sorry that I’ve put the time in.
I did experiment a bit with Box of Frogs to see if I could let what I’d written go more easily, but as the fic went on I did more and more editing on it, so the answer seems to be, not really.
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
With the proviso that everyone’s taste is different, and that this is just my preference, I have no time for mpreg or alpha/beta/omega fics; kidfic leaves me cold, as do de-aging fics (unless it’s something like @dsudis‘ lovely Ring The Bell Backward, where the de-aging is in the service of a different story); I don’t often get much out of genderbend AUs; as I said above in a different answer, I don’t really like gratuitous whump (I would never do Bad Things Happen Bingo); and everyone and their cat knows that major character death sends me into hysteria.
I sound so crabby! Partly it’s because I read pretty much everything across the fandoms I like, so I see a lot of all tropes. The only tags I’ll actively filter out on AO3 are A/B/O and Age Play.
