He mentions it in Outro:Her "I quit the XX that I liked so much, just for you" and even in the live performance of it at an award show makes the gesture of throwing away a cigarette
Its a point of contention in the Love Youself promo videos too, where the Anima is trying to get him to quit , stealing his lighter and giving him lollipops (the storyline is fictional , but part of hyyh was brainstormed or inspired by bts)
Its quite common for adults in South Korea to be smokers , and its only oppressive and unrealistic high expectations of Idols to be above vices that causes this public backlash at the idea of a 30 year old man smoking
And Yoongi as always acknowledges this in Haegeum , we see him light up and the lyrics state " This song is about freeing what is forbidden"
Its a really pointed statement, as Yoongi is infamous for. He is a self aware idol. He is one who toes the boundary of what is acceptable for someone in his career path. In this album the song Polar Night addresses that too. The conflict of when and how and if he should say what he actaully thinks or will it just cause him problems because of the loud minority demanding the impossible of him and crucifying him for being flawed and human.
