September 2, 1945 Admiral Nimitz Signs Peace Treaty with Japan

Today in 1945, Commander in Chief of the Pacific (CINCPAC) Admiral Chester Nimitz signed the peace treaty with Japan aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, officially ending WWII.

Chester Nimitz was born in Fredricksburg, Texas. In 1964, the people of Fredericksburg established a museum for him in his family’s old hotel, which would eventually grow into the National Museum of the Pacific War.
