One step at a time, Miquella forced his body forward through the rot infected water, to where his sister awaited him. He would return to her, one last time, even if he was too late to save her. He will keep his promise.

Loosely based on a scene from "Promises"
It was at his feet where Malenia knelt; her head resting atop his lap, her bloodied hands sullying his robes. For her, this was an act of prayer, her brother serving the role of both confessor and savior as he offered her absolution and whispered promises of salvation.

"We'll protect each other then," Miquella promised, awkwardly turning towards Malenia just enough to wrap his arms around her waist in an embrace, resting his head against her chest beneath her chin. "Maybe together we can be enough to make a whole Demigod." "You're my twin, so you're already my other half."

“Come, it might be easier to show you.” Curious more than anything, Malenia took Trina’s hand and rose to stand by her side. There was a familiar look in Trina’s expression as she looked up at Malenia with a glimmer in her eye. She couldn’t help but smile in turn, asking, “What is it?” “Something I have never shown another living soul. But I want you to see it.” A rush of something made Malenia feel giddy at Trina’s words; something she tried not to think about. “You want to share it? With me?” “Only if it works,” Trina replied, her smile fond and warm as she reached for Malenia’s other hand. Then she started walking backwards and pulled Malenia along with her, towards the edge of the lake.
The finished comic based on the dream sequence between Malenia and Trina|Miquella in my prequel fic "Field of Reeds"
I've wanted to capture a version of this scene for such a long time and finally managed to find the inspiration and willpower to actually finish it 💜
Though Miquella had done this many times before, in the past it had always been Malenia's hand or arm - never her leg and never so much of her body. He started at the sole of her foot, slowly pulling the bandages away and revealing what was concealed beneath. The necrosis had already set in as evident by the discolored skin covered in dark weeping blisters, worse than he had ever seen before. Miquella faltered at the sight, glancing up at his sister who was watching him, her hand tightly gripping the sheet at her side. “Am I hurting you?” “No,” Malenia was quick to reassure him. “No, I just wish you did not have to see this, to see me like this.”
