Today I honor my momma, Maureen. • Today I honor each of you who love your mommas, who are mommas, and each of you who’ve lost your mommas and still miss them so deeply treat it aches. I honor those of you who perhaps don’t have a relationship with your mommas, have one that’s complicated or painful, or have had to sever your relationship with your mommas so that you might better nurture yourselves. • I honor each of you who are mommas in your communities. To the children in your lives who might not have been born to you, but to whom you give of yourselves. Each of you who are mommas to your neighbors, and friends, and aging parents. • And today I might, most of all, feel a breathtaking amount of love for all the migrant mommas out there — hundreds of them — who are without their babies today. We will not stop fighting for you. We will take all the love that our mommas gave us and turn it toward you. Today and every day until your babies are back in your arms.
