you want your man to be a strong trad con and convert you into a gimbo catholic who wears her crucifix as more than just a fashion piece?
more than a fashion piece, you say…?
The CEO man from Ex Machina (2014) gave the AI a beautiful woman’s face and shape so that the employee man would know it’s a robot and still might ascribe humanity to it but come to find out AI doesn’t even need to be that good at being or pretending to be sentient or have a human face for people to attach to it more than a person.
obsession is an okay movie but I wouldn’t say it’s great… idk I just keep thinking about how better it would be if the director either committed to the idea in a deeper level (the actual horror of the dehumanization of women and treating them like objects. the horror of having your autonomy and agency violated) or if the story was more from nikki’s perspective. I’m not saying only women writers/directors can write women btw that’s not it, but I think this movie from a woman’s perspective would’ve been genuinely incredible and probably more uncomfortable too. and while I know it’s not the director’s fault, the online chatter about it either being completely surface level or just missing the point entirely and men saying shit like “I want a crazy latina gf like that 😍” is making me lose it lol but that’s the internet for you. inde navarrette’s performance is amazing and I think her character deserved to be even more fleshed out. but all things considered, it’s so nice to see a super indie movie with under 1 million of budget being so successful in this era of reheated ip franchise reboot nostalgia bait slop
virginie efira and tao okamo cannes best actress winners let’s go 🙂↕️
I haven’t posted about Twisters (2024) here I think. Or have I?
I really liked it. Great movie to watch in a shaky flight, and the in-flight entertainment being interrupted by the pilot making turbulence announcements only enhances the experience. “The meteorology is dubious” is a non-critique because yeah duh if there really was a consequence-free chemical that could be used to tame tornadoes wouldn’t we be using that already???
Tornado cowboy is the character ever and I am so glad he turned out to be a cool love interest and not the arrogant MIT boy.
have any of you watched lilya 4 ever? bc the child being sold into prostitution by her aunt movie shouldn't be the little girl plays basketball in heaven with her dead friend with cancer movie imo. iirc she kills herself running from pimp #2 and dons these chintzy angel wings when she goes to heaven and I'm just like what the fuck is the Russian viewing public's relationship to religiousity
I fear I'm not equipped to understand eastern orthodox teenspoitation. like gods not dead meets harmony korrine
my soulmate has to be someone who doesn’t mind going on a cinema date for the millionth time
