A Cinematic Perspective on Battle Royales in the Gaming Community
If you look at it from a cinematic perspective, the war between the battle royale games is kind of beautiful.
Let me explain.
Fortnite and PUBG. The battle between them stretched so thin its forgotten, but Fortnite stays on top. Both have groups that root for them, debating which is better. The newer generation all over it, while the older generations are left practically in the dark.
Many attempts are made to end the tyrannical rule of Fortnite. Many are unsuccessful. One in particular that showed promise and was a beacon of hope for many, was that of Apex. Many hailed it as “The Fortnite Killer.” For the first two weeks it surpassed Fortnite on Twitch. But it declined from there, before it even got to its first season. The future seemed bleak for the gaming community.
Then, a resurgence. Minecraft, a nearly ten year old game, started creeping back into the consciousness of the populace. It many people turned back to their childhood favorite. Nostalgia brought them back to Minecraft. So much so, it topped viewers on Twitch over Fortnite.
In the midst of the war-torn battleground of gaming, namely the battle royale genre, the fact that Minecraft came seemingly out of nowhere to take hold of our hearts again, I think is kind of beautiful.
