my favorite movie of all time. watched it for the first time was absolutely motherfucking blown away. i wish that i could go back and relive it for the first time. WAS IT LIKE THAT FOR YOU? also the original soundtrack…. fucking masterpiece

wish I could intellectualize what I think about this movie better but I can't so here it is...

i picked remmick’s quote as my favorite. i honestly feel like i owe Ryan Coogler my life. this movie really helped me deconstruct christianity after i had already been disconnecting from it for a while, but hearing that line really put the nail in the coffin for me.

it also pushed me to learn more about my ancestors’ history — who were witches, healers, and spiritual people. when delta slim says “it’s magic what we do,” that line stuck with me. if you really think about it, this is a very dangerous movie. not dangerous to people who only see things on the surface. but to people who have had the veil lifted from their eyes, they understand that this movie was a quiet awakening for a generation.

do you really think ryan coogler just put that in the screenplay for fun?

he’s very good at making what he calls “grilled cheese” movies — movies that are accessible, that people will want to watch, movies that sell. he knows exactly what makes a film work.

but with sinners he showed us our ancestors. he showed us annie using hoodoo. he showed us people from all walks of life. and he reminded us that what we do — our traditions, our spirituality, our culture, our dances, our music — is sacred and magical and interconnected. and that’s something nobody can hide or take away from black and brown people.

💿 learned a lot about religion from this movie, i watched this right after sinners (2025) and then as an ex religious person had to sit down quietly in a dark room. then i became an omnist.

📀ended way too early, definitely needed a few more seasons. i really liked this show. i’ve only watched it once, and i need to do another rewatch. i also think it came out before all of the conversations around did and suddenly everybody saying they have an alter system.

📀her alter system felt very realistic, and she created alternate versions of herself to protect herself. i think at the time i was watching it as a child, i really related to that. it was very sad watching her try to uncover what happened to her.
