Hunger
A/N: quick disclaimer, this story is kind of the start of a splitting of the timeline of RexCoatl. These events don't take place in the main timeline but branch off on their own.
The three human masters of Chaldea were not powerful mages in anyway. They were relatively below average in skill. They had the potential for greatness but not the necessary knowledge or skill. For the most part this was fine, they didn't need to fight that's what their servants were for. But there were times where they felt like they could pull more weight in the battles they were to face.
Rex felt this feeling often enough, he noticed that many servants we're weren't the proper servant but someone else possessing their abilities. This got him thinking, why not him? The idea was risky, and things were weird when it came to pseudo-servants. Some were like Waver, purely the host but with powers of the servant. Some were like Kama, even the host could barely be recognized. Many fell in a middle ground.
The only thing stopping Rex was the risk. But eventually after so many close calls and moments where he didn't think he was enough as is he said screw it and decided to try to become a pseudo-servant himself.
But the question was, how? He wasn't even sure how the servants he summoned managed so he couldn't begin to think of how to do it himself.
Then he thought of something else. Something that might solve the problem.
Rex: a grail. Maybe if I use a grail to help with the process I can manage. But the question is... who?
He thought maybe he could replicate the process that was used for Mash but that didn't seem like a good idea. But he remembered something else.
Rex: that keystone... the one Medea used to trap the leftover spirit of Cipatli. Maybe I can use the the grail and keystone to put a lil bit of Cipatli in me.
The risk was great. But that could be said for so many things he did in this adventure. So he thought screw it! Let's try.
In his room, grail in one hand and keystone in the other he was about to do something stupid.
Rex: alright here goes.
He started to concentrate on the goal he had in mind and in response the grail glowed a bright light.
After the light subsided he was on the ground, the grail used up and the keystone broken.
Rex: did it work? I don't feel any different...
Then his stomach growled. He was hungry, but this was different. He was starving, almost as if he had just gone days without food.
Rex: what the hell? I just ate earlier.
And as if in response to the hunger his body changed. He grew scales on his body, a large shark-like tail, huge crocodilian spikes down his back along with a shark's dorsal fin. He grew in size aswell and finally the most extreme change: mouths.
His body sprouted mouths in places there shouldn't be any, at his elbows, his knees, his neck, his stomach, even his new tail opened up with a huge maw.
Rex: what the... I guess it did work.
But he couldn't think straight, he was hungry and needed a meal. He immediately ran out of his room, towards the cafeteria.
He busted through the doors of the cafeteria, ready to feast.
Rex, in a much deeper voice: HUNGRY.
No one was there, it was relatively late and most servants had already ate. So he was momentarily free to feed on any food.
He went into the food storage and started devouring the first thing he could find.
Meat, veggies, fruits, pastries, raw dough, it didn't matter. He needed to be filled. Slowly as he was getting better fed, he slowly turned back. The scales and mouths went away.
Rex: ...huh? I'm normal? Is it food that determines it?
Eventually his alone time was cut short by another in need of snacks
Gordy, entering the cafeteria: now it's time to make a deli- what the hell?!
Rex: ...hi
Gordy: what did you do to the kitchen?
Rex: ...I was hungry
Gordy: did you have to make such a gigantic mess?!
Rex: well this wasn't a normal hunger.
Eventually he had to explain. This inevitably lead to a meeting with the others.
Da Vinci: ...whyyyyy?
Rex: I told you why!
Sion: we understand that sometimes you feel inadequate but just taking a grail and putting the spirit of what probably qualifies as a beast of humanity into yourself isn't exactly what you should be doing to combat those feelings.
Rex: well I worked with what I had.
Gordy: well can we get rid of it? Can we turn him back to normal?
Da Vinci: this is a bit unprecedented. It'll take time and many tests to figure out how.
Gordy: of course! Nothing's straightforward around here.
Da Vinci: I guess in the meantime you're getting what you want. But let this be a lesson, don't do anything stupid like that again
Rex: I won't *stomach starts to growl*
Gordy: ...oh no
And thus at least for a time, Rex had the powers of the ancient mesoamerican Leviathan known as Cipatli. Thankfully what was in the keystone wasn't much of the original beast, as such the risk wasn't nearly as big as it could be. But you may be wondering, what did his wife Quetzalcoatl think of this?
Quetz: QUEEEEE?!
She didn't take it well. But that's a story for another time.
A/N: pseudo-servant master time! I've had this idea for a while but now's the time to execute! Like I said in the disclaimer, this is a separate timeline so most stories will ignore this but it's still fun to think of.
