An apology
Since this blog's inception, Transformers Labels had prided itself on being a comprehensive and accurate archive of text printed and/or stickered on Hasbro's (and TakaraTomy's) Transformers brand toys and merchandise. However, today I am bringing attention to a breach of this blog's high standards, which has helped to spread a fandom misconception due to a lapse in my diligence.
On November 9th, 2016, the above image was posted to Transformers Labels with the caption "COS MOS". The toy pictured is Henkei! Henkei! Adams (2009), a part of the Minibot Spy Team set, and the Japanese variant of the Universe (2008) Legends Class Cosmos toy. Other than the differences in the hues of plastic and paint used, the deco layouts of both toys are the same.
Note the silver "tattoo" markings on the toy. According to Hasbro's Bill Rawley, these paint applications spell out Cosmos' name in a Cybertronian substitution cipher likely of Rawley's own creation, which Transformers Labels refers to with the unofficial designation "Neocybex". This cipher remained with Hasbro's Transformers documents and saw further prominence following the introduction of the so-called "Aligned" continuity, with it being used in such places as High Moon Studios' War for Cybertron/Fall of Cybertron video games and the Combiner Wars Torchbearer toys.
Information has since come to light that reveals that the above label is the result of a widespread fandom misconception that Transformers Labels is guilty of propagating.
In December 2014, the "Binder of Revelation" leaked. Over 300 pages into this near-mythical production bible was an image of Rawley's substitution cipher. Alongside the image was the translation of "COSMOS", laid out roughly as it appears on the toy.
The relevant page, reproduced above, highlights that an error was made by Transformers Labels that could easily have been avoided by consulting the other sources mentioned above. By way of apology, here is a rectified post reflecting the way the writing is actually tampographed onto the toy.
MOS COS
Despite everything, please continue to enjoy Transformers Labels.
